The International Frame & the Tamil
Struggle to include
Eelamnation Editorial International Community &
Glass Houses "The Thamils had to face
bloody violence, murder, rape and
looting in 1956, 1958, 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983 engineered and sponsored by
the governments in power. Is asking for ones rights an act of war?
The fact, however brutal, it may seem is that it
is only after the Thamil youth in their
frustration took up arms that we have now talks of peace
and at least an ostensible desire to offer the
Thamils their rights. ..The moment the Thamil
leadership drops its arms we will go back to
status quo ante as in 1983...The International
Community will not take responsibility for this.
Are members of the International Community
prepared to give up their arms and pursue
peaceful means to achieve their own goals?

Tamils English Translation by

"The English
translation of the Tamil book
நாம்
தமிழர் by
Ponnambalam Sangarapillai is an excellent book on
the history of the Tamils. The original Tamil
book was first published in 1979 by the Tamil
Colombo Sangam... In Tamil Nadu there arose in
the 60's and may be before that too, the so
called Dravidian movement to protect the Tamil
heritage, culture and the Tamil people from the
take over by the Hindi speaking North Indians...
(But) even though that movement used the word
"Dravidian", they used it on the basis of caste
only. The Dravidian movement spoke of Aryan and
Dravidian in a caste based divisive manner. They
refused to accept the Tamil Brahmin as a
Tamilian...The Dravidian movement was also an
atheistic movement, which did not find acceptance
among the Tamil people..." more

Reflections
"It has been repeatedly
asked, 'Of what possible use can the
republication, translation and editing of
books like Thiruvasagam be?' - and
'Who can be expected to desire to make
themselves acquainted with such works?' ...
If the Tamil people and the English are ever
in a degree to understand one another, and to
appreciate each other's thoughts and
feelings... our English people must have the
means of obtaining some insight into the
living system which exercises at the present
day such a marvellous power over the minds of
the great majority of the Tamil
people." Reverend

An Era of Instability in World

Operation Iraqi Freedom has exposed the
limitations of American military power at the
same time that it has severely impaired the
country's diplomatic resources...The suspicion
that the United States will find it difficult to
undertake another pre emptive war and will be
hesitant to play its military card in regional
trouble spots - yet might still do so - creates a
general climate of uncertainty across the globe..
Although it is impossible to predict with
accuracy the future configuration of world
politics, it is reasonable to expect that a
stable pattern will not crystallize in the short
term and that the coming decade will be a
period of testing by state and non-state actors to determine how
much of their agendas they can achieve..."

"...The state-sponsored anti-Tamil riots of July
1983 and the subsequent armed struggle in Sri
Lanka created a huge Tamil Diaspora which is now
spread across Europe Canada and Australia. The
migration of Tamils from India is also not
insignificant. The Net has made possible
communication within and across this
Diaspora, Tamil being one of the most widely
used languages on the Net, with thousands of
active Tamil sites. Many of them host Tamil
literary texts... the Tamil literary canon

Reflections "... the phenomenology of enjoyment has
eight major components. When people reflect on
how it feels when their experience is most
positive, they mention at least one, and often
all, of the following. First, the experience
usually occurs when we confront tasks we have a
chance of completing. Second, we must be able to
concentrate on what we are doing. Third and
fourth, the concentration is usually possible
because the task undertaken has clear goals and
provides immediate feedback. Fifth..." more

The digital revolution is bringing Tamil from

Tamil renaissance in the
19th century. Today, a Tamil
digital renaissance is taking place - and is
helping to bring Tamil people together not simply
