"Try as they might the Bandula

 whether Rajapakse or
Gunesekara cannot stop Canadian Tamils
from paying homage to their fallen
heroes, the brave Tamil freedom fighters
who died fighting to liberate the Tamil
homeland in the island of Sri Lanka. The
mass of people who attended the Maveerar
Remembrance Day event in Canada on 27
November 2008 is once again a clear
signal to all Tamil detractors that their
shenanigans wont
work... As one hears of the mass of people attending
similar events taking place all over the
Tamil Diaspora, one is heartened but
not surprised. Such a profound out
pouring of emotion and passion by Tamils
unprecedented in terms of any freedom
struggles in recent times is reflective
of the Tamil peoples
genuine yearning to see their homeland
Tamil Eelam free; a yearning
thats just and
reasonable and should be felt, understood

sovereignty"100,000 Tamils, including
22,000 young men and women, have
sacrificed their lives for Tamil
sovereignty. All those who were concerned
on the resolution of the conflict should
pay attention to the historical ground
realities. An independent Tamil Eelam is
the only viable solution. As in the case
with Montenegro, East Timor and Kosovo,
the Eezham Tamil people have long back
overwhelmingly mandated their sovereignty
and self-determination in the
Vaddukkoaddai Resolution of 1976 and its
endorsement in the 1977 elections. How
could Tamils live together when the
Sinhala leaders themselves reiterate
their racial policy saying that Sri Lanka
is a Sinhala state and there could be no
question of Tamil homeland. A tremendous
upsurge was sweeping through Tamil Nadu
state with 65 million Tamils, who are
agitated against the genocidal war that
has been thrust upon the Tamils by the
Colombo government. The upsurge has
transcended the borders of Tamil Nadu as
evidenced by the recent protest by
students in New Delhi. ." more

Defence Secretary is a man who has boasted,
as Mangala Samaraweera revealed in

unloaded 14.4 million kilogrammes of bombs
in the Wanni. He seems proud of that
achievement. 14.4 million kilogrammes of

Hiroshima had an estimated yield of between
13 to 18 kilotonnes of TNT."

"The bombing of the Vanni will become part
of the historical memories of more than 70
million Tamil people living today in many
lands and will serve to keep alive the
lesson that Sri Lanka's President Rajapakse
is intent on teaching the Tamil people -
that political power flows through the
barrel of the gun. The words of Ernest Renan in What is a
Nation uttered more than a hundred
years ago in 1882 come to mind - "Where
national memories are concerned, griefs are
of more value than triumphs, for they
impose duties, and require a common effort.
A nation is therefore a large-scale
solidarity, constituted by the feeling of
the sacrifices that one has made in the
past and of those that one is prepared to
make in the future. " more

from those who hunger and are not fed,
those who are cold and are not clothed..

The Denial of Poverty and Empire
- Saul Landau" In September 2007, U.S. Federal
Poverty Numbers showed 12.5 percent of
Americans -- 37.3 million people -- living
in poverty according to the U.S. Census
Bureau. Food Research and Action Center in
2004 claimed its studies showed almost 40
million U.S. kids experienced routine
hunger during the course of their week. To
what class do the 50 million Americans
lacking access to health care belong? ..
Millions of adults and kids are homeless or
a pay check or two away; thousands live in
cars. But presidential aspirants agreed
over almost two years of campaigning on the
inherent virtues of that ephemeral "middle
class." In real life the number of poor
people increased, but became less visible
-- not from our eyes, but for political
speech parameters. Did the major Party
candidates fear that by mentioning the tens
of millions of wretched of the earth they
would lose votes, beget the ridicule of the
media and, most importantly, alienate the
major donors.." more

However, growing protests in Tamil Nadu

I am a Field Negro - Malcolm
X"Back
during slavery, when Black people like me
talked to the slaves, they didn't kill 'em,
they sent some old house Negro along behind
him to undo what he said. You have to read
the history of slavery to understand this.
There were two kinds of Negroes. There
was that old house Negro and the field
Negro. And the house Negro always
looked out for his master. When the field
Negroes got too much out of line, he held
them back in check. He put 'em back on the
plantation. The house Negro could afford to
do that because he lived better than the
field Negro...He lived right up next to his
master - in the attic or the basement...
And he could talk just like his master -
good diction... But then you had some field
Negroes, who lived in huts, had nothing to
lose. ... And today you still have house
Negroes and field Negroes. I'm a field

The Obama Hype -What
'Change' In America Really Means - John
Pilger"Yes, Obama's election is historic, a
symbol of great change to many. But it is
equally true that the American elite has
grown adept at using the black middle and
management class. The courageous Martin
Luther King recognised this when he linked
the human rights of black Americans with
the human rights of the Vietnamese, then
being slaughtered by a liberal Democratic
administration. And he was shot. In
striking contrast, a young black major
serving in Vietnam, Colin Powell, was used
to "investigate" and whitewash the infamous
My Lai massacre. As Bush's secretary of
state, Powell was often described as a
"liberal" and was considered ideal to lie
to the United Nations about Iraq's
non-existent weapons of mass
destruction. Condaleezza Rice, lauded
as a successful black woman, has worked
assiduously to deny the Palestinians
justice...Obama's first two crucial
appointments represent a denial of the
wishes of his supporters on the principal
issues on which they voted. The
vice-president-elect, Joe Biden, is a proud
war maker and Zionist. Rahm Emanuel, who is
to be the all-important White House chief
of staff, is a fervent "neoliberal" devoted
to the doctrine that led to the present
economic collapse and impoverishment of
millions. He is also an "Israel-first"
Zionist who served in the Israeli army
and opposes meaningful justice for the
Palestinians - an injustice that is at the
root of Muslim people's loathing of the
United States and the spawning of jihadism.
No serious scrutiny of this is permitted
within the histrionics of Obamamania...
As for historic moments, there is
another that has gone unreported but is
well under way - liberal democracy's shift
towards a corporate dictatorship, managed
by people regardless of ethnicity, with the
media as its cliche.."more

Sri Lanka: The State
Changes Face - Jayadeva
Uyangoda"..I believed for quite some time
that ethnic majoritarianism is a
political condition that the political
leaders of the majority community impose
by means of coercion on the ethnic
minorities. It accords an unequal, at
best second class, status to the
minorities. Minorities do not accept
majoritarianism and they resist it. That
is why ethnic conflicts flare up.
Observing how the Tamil and Muslim
political parties in Sri Lanka have come
to accept the second class and unequal
status with great pleasure, I changed,
realising that my understanding of
majoritarianism was an incomplete one. I
now know that ethnic majoritarianism is
not necessarily coercive. It has a strong
element of consent of the minorities, or
at least their political leaders.
Majoritarianism is completed when the
political representatives of the
minorities accept, with happiness and
even in intense competition with each
other, the condition of inequality. They
do so in exchange of other benefits which
are usually couched in the respectable
language of development
assistance to our
community.
together with Comment bytamilnation.org There is much that we
agree with in that which Dr. Uyangoda
says. Said that there are some matters
on which we disagree. Dr.Uyangoda is
right to point out that 'majoritarianism is
completed when
the political representatives of the
minorities accept, with happiness and
even in intense competition with each
other, the condition of inequality.'
But we believe he is wrong when he says
that 'ethnic majoritarianism is not
necessarily
coercive'. Rule by a permanent ethnic majority
is coercive.
It is rule directed to enforce the
'consent' of the ruled to alien rule.
And resistance to such alien rule comes
with a price tag. Freedom is never
free. Unsurprisingly not everybody is
willing to pay the price - in word
and in deed.
And the people of Tamil Eelam are no
different to those of other nations.
Every people has its share of
opportunists, profiteers, freeloaders
and escapists..." more

necessarily because of flying tiger bombs,

deadly air defence system. We are now in

"Increasingly, the Fourth World (of
Nations without States) is emerging as a
new force in international politics
because in the common defense of their
nations, many indigenous peoples do not
accept being mere subjects of
international law and state sovereignty
and trusteeship bureaucracies. Instead,
they are organizing and exerting their
own participation and policies as
sovereign peoples and
nations....

Reflection
"..The posturing by
Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi (whatever may
be their motives) is, in the final
analysis, an appeal to an underlying Tamil
national consciousness, and therefore
their actions will
help to nurtureTamil togetherness - and
for that reason
will be welcomed by many Tamils and used by
them to further strengthenthat Tamil togetherness.
Tamils committed to freedom may strike
together with those who do not have the
same commitment, but they will continue to
organise separately so that they may
preserve the integrity of their own
purpose. The old advice: 'Strike together
but march separately' still holds
good.Time
does not stand still... And the
togetherness of the Tamil people living in many
lands has grown from year to year and
that particular river is not about to flow
backwards. It is a growing togetherness
reflected in the widespread support that
the ordinary people of Tamil Nadu have
extended to the Tamil Eelam struggle for
freedom from alien Sinhala rule - a wide
spread support across caste and religion
and given eloquent expression
by persons such Bharathiraja, Director
Seeman, Director Cheran, Vaiko,

by tamilnation.org" "Mr.Blake is ofcourse right
to point out that the"greatest failure of
the last 25 years has been the
failure of the main Sinhalese parties
to reach agreement " though it would
have been better if he had got his
history right - it is not simply
during the last 25 years that Sinhala
parties have failed to reach
agreement.... Said that, Mr.Blake
with his depth of understanding of
the conflict in the island of Sri
Lanka, does not say why it is that
Sinhala political parties have failed
to reach agreement during all these
many years. Are the Sinhalese
political parties stupid? Or are the
Sinhala people who put these parties
in power so stupid that they do not
see that which Mr.Blake sees so
clearly in his wisdom? Or is
Mr.Blake stupid in failing to see
something which Sathasivam
Krishnakumar and the LTTE saw many
years ago..." more
