New Delhi's Policy on Sri Lanka will be Tamil Nadu's Policy says
Karunanidhi, Times of India, 6 June 2006 " Despite appearances to the contrary, Chief Minister Muthuvel
Karunanidhi's policies in relation to the struggle for Tamil Eelam have
always been within the frame work of New Delhi's policies .. When the history of Tamil
Eelam comes to be written (as surely it will), the question will
be asked: where was the Dravidian leader,
Muthuvel Karunanidhi? And history will, no doubt, provide a
fair answer - he was minding his own business..."

"...
Many
will see the current posturing (and ultimatums) by Jayalalitha and
Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu as no more than a drama on a platform
provided by New Delhi so that New Delhi may
coerce President Rajapakse (and his JVP
allies) to move away from the China-Iran-Pakistan axis.."
"The unity of India will not come simply
by English speaking 'Indians' speaking to each other in English...
the strength and unity of India lies not in the nuclear bomb, but in its
peoples.
Nuclear capability will not guarantee unity. The nuclear bomb did not prevent
the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the emergence of the non-nuclear
states of Latvia, Estonia and Georgia. There is a need to understand that
a people's aspiration for equality and freedom is an energy which is in many
ways more potent than that contained in a nuclear bomb. Those concerned to
secure the unity of India will need to adopt a more 'principle
centred' approach towards
struggles for self determination
in the Indian region.. ."
"It should not come too much as a surprise that
Chief Minister Karunanidhi who was vociferous in his support for an independent
Tamil Eelam during the Indira Gandhi regime now tells his 'udan pirapukal'
that they should follow in the foosteps of the DMK which had shelved the
demand for Dravida Nadu in 1962 to avoid proscription. We are reminded of
the old story about the fox - வால் வெட்டின நரிக்
கதை - .
"Once upon a time there was a fox, whose tail had been cut
off by a steel-jawed trap. And because he was so ashamed of his lost beauty
he fancied that his life had become unbearable. He grew embittered of it and
he wanted to bring all the other foxes in the same situation, so that in
their mutual suffering his own mutilation would be a common thing.
Therefore, one day he called all the foxes together and tried to persuade
them to chop off their tails, because, as he said, it was not only an ugly
object, but also an unnecessary burden which was tied up to them. But
someone interrupted him and said: 'Hey fox, if your tail hadn't been cut off
you certainly wouldn't have said this to us.' This story applies to those
who give their fellow people advice not out of kindness but out of
self-interest. "
