மக்களே யோசியுங்கள்! முத்துக்குமார் எழுதிய கடைசிக்கடிதம்

"வந்தாரை வாழ வைக்கும் செந்தமிழ் நாட்டில் சேட்டு என்றும், சேட்டனென்றும் வந்தவனெல்லாம் வாழ, சொந்த இரத்தம் ஈழத்தில் சாகிறது. அதைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துங்கள் என்று குரல் கொடுத்தால், ஆம் என்றோ இல்லை என்றோ எந்த பதிலும் சொல்லாமல் கள்ள மௌனம் சாதிக்கிறது இந்திய ஏகாதிபத்தியம். இந்தியாவின் போர் ஞாயமானதென்றால் அதை வெளிப்படையாகச் செய்ய வேண்டியதுதானே.. ஏன் திருட்டுத்தனமாக செய்ய வேண்டும்?"

"My dear working Tamils...Vannakam. At a time when you are busy getting to work, I am pained that I have to meet you in this way. But there is no other way. My name is Muttukumar. I am a journalist. At present I am working in a newspaper in Chennai.Like you, I too have daily read the news reports and the internet of the daily killings of our fellow Tamils in Eelam. Like you I am also one of the countless Tamils who have been unable to eat or sleep.Senth Thamizh Nadu has given life to those who have come to it, but our blood relations in Eelam are dying. When we raise our voices and call for an end to this killing, the Indian imperial government says neither yes nor no and grows silent. If the Indian government�s war is just, then it should engage in that war openly. Why does it do it in secret and with deceit?..Tamil Eelam is not the need of Tamil Eelam alone, it is the need of Tamil Nadu also... Dear Tamil people, in the struggle against injustice our brothers and children (in Tamil Nadu) have taken up the weapon of the intellect. I have used the weapon of life. �இலங்கையோட சோகத்தைப் பத்தியெல்லாம் வருத்தப்பட்ட அண்ணனுக்கு எங்களோட சோகம் தெரியாமப் போயிடுச்சே�!�

உண்ணாவிரதம்� கல்லூரிப் புறக்கணிப்பு� ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் என்றெல்லாம் ஈழ விவகாரத்தில் விடிவு வேண்டி எத்தனையோ போராட்டங்கள் அனுதினமும் நடந்து கொண்டி ருக்கின்றன.

அதற்கெல்லாம் கொஞ்சமும் பலனில்லாமல் போனதாலோ என்னவோ� உணர்வைப் பிளிற வைக்கும் உருக்கமான கடிதம் ஒன்றை இந்த சமூகத்தின் முன்னால் எழுதி வைத்துவிட்டு, தீக்குளித்து உயிரை விட்டிருக்கிறார் முத்துக்குமார் என்ற இளைஞர்.p42

ஜனவரி 29-ம் தேதி, சென்னை சாஸ்திரி பவனில் ஏதேதோ வேலைகளோடு பலரும் காத்திருக்க, அவர்களின் கைகளில் ஒளியச்சு செய்யப்பட்ட ஒரு கடிதத்தைக் கொடுத்துவிட்டு, முத்துக்குமார் தன் உடலில் தீவைத்துக்கொள்ள� அதன் பிறகே நிகழும் கொடூரம் பலருக்கும் தெரிந்து

அலறி இருக்கிறார்கள். தின்றது போதுமென நினைத்து, தீ கரிக்கட்டையாக உடலைத் துப்பியபோதும், �ஈழ மக்களுக்குத் தீர்வுவேண்டும்� என் தமிழ் இனம் இனியும் வதைபடக் கூடாது!� என முனகியபடியே துடித்திருக்கிறார் முத்துக்குமார்.

கீழ்ப்பாக்கம் அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் பரிசோதனைகளுக்குப் பிறகு கிடத்தப்பட்டிருந்த முத்துக்குமாரின் உடலைப் பார்க்கக் கலங்கிய விழிகளோடு ஓடோடி வந்தார் ம.தி.மு.க. பொதுச் செயலாளர் வைகோ.

�வாழைக் குருத்தை வாரிக் கொடுத்துட்டோமே� இப்படியெல்லாம் நடக்கக்கூடாது என்பதற்காகத்தானே உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்த மாணவர்களிடம் கெஞ்சிக் கூத்தாடினேன்.

இந்த வீரத் தமிழனின் சாவுக்கு அரசு என்ன பதில் சொல்லப் போகிறது?� என்றபடியே முத்துக்குமாரின் கால்களைத் தொட்டு வணங்கி, வைகோ கலங்கியது� எல்லோருடைய கண்களிலும் நீர் கோக்க வைத்துவிட்டது.

தகவலறிந்து அடுத்தடுத்து திருமாவளவன், டாக்டர் ராமதாஸ், நெடுமாறன், சுப.வீரபாண்டியன் என பலரும் சோகம் அப்ப மருத்துவமனைக்கு வந்தனர்.

திருச்செந்தூர் மாவட்டம் கொலுவைநல்லூர் கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த முத்துக்குமார், சென்னைக்கு வந்து பத்து வருடங்களுக்கும் மேலாகிவிட்டது.

சினிமா முயற்சியில் இயக்குநர்கள் பலரைச் சந்தித்தும் பலனில் லாமல் போனதால்� கடந்த இரண்டு மாதங்களாக பா.ம.க. தலைவர் ராமதாஸின் மகள் கவிதா நடத்தும் �பெண்ணே நீ� என்கிற மகளிர் மாத இதழில் உதவி ஆசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றி இருக்கிறார்.

வாசிப்பு தாகமும் எழுத்து ஞானமும் தீராத தமிழ்ப் பற்றும்கொண்ட முத்துக்குமார், ஈழ விவகாரத்தின் சமீபத்திய நிகழ்வுகளைத் தீவிரமாக கவனித் திருக்கிறார்.

சிவசங்கர் மேனன் பயணம், பிரணாப் முகர்ஜி பேச்சுவார்த்தை என ஒப்புக்குச் சப்பாக நடந்த போர் நிறுத்த நடவடிக்கைகள் முத்துக்குமாரை ரொம்பவே கலங்கடிக்க, இறுதியில் தீக்குத் தன்னையே இரையாக்கி இருக்கிறார்.p44

அழுகையும் ஓலமுமாக முத்துக்குமாரின் உடலைப் பார்க்க வந்த அவருடைய மைத்துனர் கருக்கவேல், யாரிடமும் பேசத் திராணியற்று மயக்கமானார்.

சில நிமிடங்களில் லேசாகக் கண் விழித்தவரிடம், �முத்துக்குமார் எந்த அமைப்பிலாவது இருந் தாரா?� என ஒரு நிருபர் கேட்க, �ஆமாங்க� �தமிழ்�ங்கிற தீவிரவாத அமைப்புல இருந்தான்னு கொட்டை எழுத்துல போடுங்க� ஒரு வார்த்தைகூட ஆங்கிலத்தில பேசாம தமிழ் மேல வெறி பிடிச்சு அலைஞ்சு, எந்த நேரமும் ஈழத்தைப் பத்தியே பேசி, கடைசியில ஒரு எழவும் நடக்காம போன வருத்தத்துல உயிரையே விட்டுட் டான்.

அவனைப் போய் எந்தத் தீவிரவாத அமைப்பைச் சேர்ந்த வன்னு கேட்குறீங்களே?� எனத் தலையிலடித்துக் கொண்டு அழுதார் கருக்கவேல்.

முத்துக்குமாரின் தங்கையான தமிழரசியை திருமணம் செய்திருக்கும் கருக்கவேலை தேற்றிப் பேச வைத்தோம்.

�நேத்து நைட் (28-ம் தேதி) பத்து மணி வரைக்கும் நல்லாத்தான் பேசிக்கிட்டு இருந்தான். அப்போ டி.வி. நியூஸ்ல, ஈழத்தில குழந்தைகளைக் கொல்றது பத்தியும், பெண்களைச் சீரழிக்கிறது பத்தியும் சொன் னாங்க. அதைப் பார்த்து நாங்ககூட மனசு வெடிச்சுப் போயிட்டோம்.

ஆனா, அவன் ரொம்ப அமைதியா இருந்தான். அப்புறம் என்ன நினைச்சானோ� யார் கிட்டயும் பேசாம மாடியில இருக்கிற அவனோட ரூமுக்குப் போயிட்டான். பெரும்பாலும் நாங்க யாரும் அவனோட ரூம் பக்கம் போக மாட்டோம்.

தனிமையில் புத்தகங்கள் படிச்சுக்கிட்டும் எழுதிக்கிட்டும் இருப்பான். அன்னிக்கு நைட் என்ன நடந்துச்சுன்னே தெரியலை.

அடுத்த நாள் விடிகாலை அஞ்சு மணிக்கெல்லாம் வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியே கிளம்பிட்டான். �பத்து மணிக்கு சாஸ்திரி பவனில் யாரோ ஒரு பையன் ஈழப் பிரச்னையைக் கண்டிச்சு தீக்குளிச்சிட்டான்!�னு எல்லாரும் பேசிக்கிட்டாங்க.

அப்ப எனக்கு சட்டுன்னு முத்துக்குமார் ஞாபகம்தான் வந்தச்சு. ஆனா, அவனைப் பத்திதான் எல்லாரும் பேசியிருக்காங்கனு அப்புறம்தான் எனக்குத் தெரிஞ்சது�� என்றபடியே கண்கலங்கியவர்,

�மலை ஏறினாலும் மச்சான் துணை இருந்தா போதும்னு சொல்வாங்க. ரெண்டு வருஷத்துக்கு முன்னாலதான் முத்துக்குமாரோட தம்பி ஆக்சிடென்ட்ல செத்துப் போனான்.

�பரவாயில்லடா� எனக்கு நீ ஒருத்தன் இருக்கிறதே போதும்�னு சொல்லி ஒருத் தரை ஒருத்தர் தேத்திக்கிட்டோம்.

ஆனா, இப்ப உறுதுணையா இருந்த அந்த ஒருத் தனையும் இழந்துட்டேனே� என் பொண்டாட்டி இப்ப ஒம்பது மாச கர்ப்பிணி. எங்க புள்ளைகளுக்கு தாய் மாமாங்கிற விதியத்துப் போச்சே�� எனப் பெருங்குரலெடுத்து அழத் தொடங்கினார், கருக்கவேல்.

சென்னை கொளத்தூர் பகுதியில் இருக்கும் மக்காரம் தோட் டத்தில் உள்ள முத்துக்குமாரின் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றோம். வீட்டு உரிமையாளர் வீரமுரசு நம்மிடம், �எம்பேரைப் பத்தி அவ்வளவு பெருமையாப் பேசுவாம்பா� நல்ல தமிழ்ப் பேருன்னு வாய் நிறைய அவன் சொல்றப்ப, �இதைக் கேட்டா என்னைப் பெத்துப் பேரு வச்சவங்க உச்சி குளிர்ந்து போயிடுவாங்கடா�ன்னு சொல்வேன்.

அந்த வாஞ்சையான பேச்சும் அவனோட பழக்க வழக்கமும் எனக்கு ரொம்பப் பிடிச்சுப் போச்சு. அதனாலேயே அவனுக்கு மாடியில தனியா ஒரு ரூமே கட்டிக் கொடுத்தேன்.

அவன் தேடித் தேடி வாசிக்கிற புத்தகங்களும், பகிர்ந்துக்கிற விஷயங்களும் அவன் மேல இருந்த பிரமிப்பை அதிகப்படுத்திடுச்சு.

இதுக்கிடையில கம்ப்யூட்டர்லயும் நல்ல அறிவு அவனுக்கு. எம்.சி.ஏ. முடிச்ச என் பொண்ணுக்கு கம்ப்யூட்டர் பத்தி அவன் கத்துக் கொடுப்பான்.

இதையெல்லாம் பார்த்து ஆச்சர்யப்பட்டுப் போன என் மருமகன், �நீ சிங்கப் பூருக்கு வந்துடு� கம்ப்யூட்டர் சம்பந்தமான நல்ல வேலை வாங்கித் தாரேன்�னு சொன்னார்.

ஆனா, அதுக்கு முத்துக்குமார் சம்மதிக்கலை. எழுத்துலயோ சினிமா வுலயோ சாதிக்கணும்கிறதுதான் அவனோட இலக்கா இருந்துச்சு. ஆனா, ஈழ விவகாரங்கள்ல அவன் மனசு இந்தளவுக்கு பாதிக்கப்படும்னு நாங்க நினைக்கலை.

கரிக்கட்டையா அவன் கிடந்த கோலத்தைப் பார்த்தப்ப, அவன் உலகத்தைப் பத்திப் பேசிய பேச்செல்லாம் ஞாபகத்துக்கு வந்துடுச்சுய்யா� இனி வாய் நிறைய என் பேரைச் சொல்லி அவன் எப்ப தம்பி பாராட்டுவான்?� என்றார் கலங்கிப்போய்.

வீரமுரசுவே நம்மை முத்துக்குமாரின் தனி அறைக்கும் அழைத்துப் போனார்.

தூய தமிழில் உருவான நாட் காட்டி படபடக்க, அறை முழுதும் ஏராளமான தமிழ்ப் புத்தகங்கள் அடுக்கி வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன.

�இரவல் தாய்நாடு�, �சாந்தனின் எழுத்துலகம்�, �பிரிவினைக்குப் பின்�, �காலம் ஒரு வரலாற்றுச் சுருக்கம்� என நாம் அறிந்திராத புத்தகங்களைக்கூட தேடித் தேடி வாங்கி வைத்திருக்கிறார் முத்துக்குமார்.

அதோடு, ஈழ விவகாரம் குறித்து கடந்த ஆறேழு வருடங்களாக பத்திரிகைகளில் வந்த அத்தனை கட்டுரைகளையும் வெட்டி பத்திரப்படுத்தி வைத்திருக்கிறார்.

விடுதலைப்புலிகள் இயக்கத் தலைவர் பிரபாகரனின் பல்வேறுபட்ட புகைப்படங்களையும் சேகரித்து வைத்திருக்கிறார்.

ஒரு படத்தின் கீழ், �அகிம்சை மிதிக்கப்படும்போது ஆயுதம் எடுப்பதில் தப்பில்லை� என எழுதி வைத்திருக்கிறார்.

அதோடு, நாற்பது பக்கங்களுக்கும் மேலாக அவர் எழுதி வைத் திருந்த கதை ஒன்று முடிக்கப்படாமல் பீரோவில் பத்திரப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தது.

வியப்பும் வேதனையும் கலந்த வருத்தத்தோடு அந்த அறையை விட்டு வெளியே வந்தோம்.

தன் மகனோடு முத்துக்குமாரின் புகைப்படத்தை மடியில் வைத்து அழுது கொண்டிருந்த அவரு டைய தங்கை தமிழரசிக்கு ஆறுதல் சொல்லிப் பேசினோம்.

�இலங்கையோட சோகத்தைப் பத்தியெல்லாம் வருத்தப்பட்ட அண்ணனுக்கு எங்களோட சோகம் தெரியாமப் போயிடுச்சே� பத்து வருஷத்துக்கு முன்னால எங்க அம்மா செத்துப் போயிட்டாங்க.
அப்பா ஒரு பழைய இரும்புக் கடையில வேலை பார்க்கிறவர்.

என்னோட கல்யாணத்துக்கு அப்புறம்தான் மூணு வேளையும் சாப்பிட முடிஞ்சுச்சு.

வறுமையில பொறந்தவன் உலகத்தைப் பத்தியெல்லாம் ஏன் கவலைப்படணும்? என் முதல் பையனுக்கு மோனேஷ்னு பேரு வச்சோம்.

தமிழ்ல பேரு வைக்காததால அவனுக்குக் கோபம் வந்துடுச்சோ என்னவோ� கொஞ்ச நாள் எம் பையனோட பேசாம இருந்தான்.

அப்புறமா மனசு மாறி ரொம்பப் பாசமா இருப்பான்.

எம் பையன் பொறந்த நாளுக்கு யார்கிட்டயோ கடன் வாங்கி ஒரு தங்க செயின் பண்ணிப் போட்டான். பெரும்பாலும் எங்ககிட்ட சரியா பேச மாட்டான். ஆனா, பாசமா இருப்பான். போன மாசம்தான் முதல் தடவையா ஐயாயிரம் ரூபா சம்பளம் வாங்கி எங்கையில கொடுத் தான்.

அப்பதாங்க அவனோட முகத்தை பல நாளுக்கு அப்புறம் முழுசா நிமிர்ந்து பார்த்தேன். என்னோட பார்வை நிலைகுத்திப் போச்சே� எங்க அண்ணன் இல்லாமப் போச்சே�� எனக் கதறி அழுதவரை �நிறைமாசமா இருக்கிறப்ப அழக் கூடாதும்மா!� எனச் சொல்லித் தேற்றினார்கள் துக்கத்துக்கு வந்திருந்த உறவினர்கள்.

லேசாக ஆசுவாசமானவர் �எங்க அண்ணன் மரந்தாளையில இருக்கிற துரைசாமி நாடார் பள்ளிக்கூடத்துல பத்தாவது படிக்கிறப்ப தங்கப் பதக்கம் வாங்கினான். அதனால அரசே அவனோட மேற்படிப்புக்கு உதவி செஞ்சது.

ஆனா, கூடப் படிச்ச பசங்க, �அரசாங்க பணத்துல படிக்கிற பய�ன்னு கிண்டல் பண்ணினதால பதினோராம் கிளாஸை பாதியிலேயே விட்டுட்டான். சாப்பாட்டுக்கு வழியில் லாட்டியும் வெளியே போயிட்டு வாரப்ப, கையில ஏதாச்சும் ஒரு புத்தகத்தோடதான் வருவான்.

அவனோட ரூம் முழுக்க அடுக்கி வச்சுருக்கிற புத்தகங்களை இனி யாருங்க படிக்கப் போறாங்க? என் வயித்துல கருத்தரிச் சுருக்கிற குழந்தை எங்க அண்ணனாத்தான் இருக்கும். எம்புள்ள படிக்கிற வரைக்கும் எங்க அண்ணனோட புத்தகங்கள் அப்படியேதான் இருக்கும்!� என்றார் வெறித்த முகத்துடன்.

முத்துக்குமார் இறப்பதற்கு முன்பு கடைசியாகப் படித்த புத்தகம், எழுத்தாளர் இராசேந்திரசோழன் எழுதிய �ஈழச் சிக்கல் தீர ஒரே வழி!�

மக்களே யோசியுங்கள்! முத்துக்குமார் எழுதிய கடைசிக்கடிதம்

ஈழத்தமிழர்களுக்காக உயிர்த்தியாகம் செய்திட்ட இந்த தமிழர் ஈழப்பிரச்சனை குறித்து கடைசியாக எழுதிய கடிதம் இதோ:

"விதியே விதியே என்செய் நினைத்திட்டாய் என் தமிழ் சாதியை...

அன்பார்ந்த உழைக்கும் தமிழ்மக்களே...

வணக்கம். வேலைக்குப் போகும் அவசரத்திலிருக்கும் உங்களை இப்படி சந்திக்க நேர்ந்ததற்கு நான் வருந்துகிறேன். ஆனால் வேறு வழியில்லை. என் பெயர் முத்துக்குமார். பத்திரிகையாளர் மற்றும் உதவி இயக்குநர். தற்சமயம் சென்னையில் உள்ள பத்திரிகை ஒன்றில் வேலை செய்து வருகிறேன்.

உங்களைப்போல் தான் நானும். தினமும் செய்தித்தாளையும், இணையத்தையும் பார்த்து பார்த்து, தினம் தினம் கொல்லப்பட்டு வரும் எம் சக தமிழர்களைக் கண்டு சாப்பிட முடியாமல், தூங்க முடியாமல், யோசிக்க முடியாமல் தவிக்கும் எத்தனையோ பேரில் ஒரு சாமானியன்.

வந்தாரை வாழ வைக்கும் செந்தமிழ் நாட்டில் சேட்டு என்றும், சேட்டனென்றும் வந்தவனெல்லாம் வாழ, சொந்த இரத்தம் ஈழத்தில் சாகிறது. அதைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துங்கள் என்று குரல் கொடுத்தால், ஆம் என்றோ இல்லை என்றோ எந்த பதிலும் சொல்லாமல் கள்ள மௌனம் சாதிக்கிறது இந்திய ஏகாதிபத்தியம். இந்தியாவின் போர் ஞாயமானதென்றால் அதை வெளிப்படையாகச் செய்ய வேண்டியதுதானே.. ஏன் திருட்டுத்தனமாக செய்ய வேண்டும்?

ராஜீவ் காந்தியைக் கொன்றார்கள் என்ற சொத்தை வாதத்தை வைத்துக்கொண்டு, சில தனிநபர்களின் பழிவாங்கல் சுயநல நோக்கங்களுக்காக ஒரு பெரும் மக்கள் சமூகத்தையே கொன்று குவிக்கத் துடிக்கிறது இந்திய அதிகார வர்க்கம்.

ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் மட்டும் குற்றம் சாட்டப்படவில்லை. தமிழக மக்களையும் குற்றவாளிகள் என்று குற்றம் சாட்டியது ஜெயின் கமிஷன் அறிக்கை. அப்படியானால் நீங்களும் ராஜீவ் காந்தியைக் கொலை செய்த கொலைகாரர்கள்தானா?

மக்கள் உங்களை தங்கத்தட்டில் வைத்து தாங்குவார்கள். தமிழனின் நன்றி உணர்ச்சி அளவிடற்கரியது. தன்னுடைய சொந்தக்காசை வைத்து அணை கட்டிக்கொடுத்தான் என்பதற்காகவே அவனுக்கு கோயில் கட்டி. தன் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு அவன் பெயரை வத்துக் கொண்டாடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான் முல்லையாற்றின் மதுரை மாவட்டத் தமிழன்.

நீங்கள் செய்ய வேண்டியதெல்லாம், கொந்தளிக்கப் போகும் தமிழகத்தில், மத்திய அரசு அதிகரிகளுக்கு ஒத்துழைக்க மறுப்பது, ரா, சி.பி.ஐ போன்ற அமைப்புகளைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களை உள்ளூர் மக்களுக்கு அடையாளம் காட்டுவதும்தான். இதை மட்டுமாவது செய்யுங்கள். மற்றதை மக்கள் பார்த்துக்கொள்வார்கள்.

களத்தில் நிற்கும் தமிழீழ மக்களே, விடுதைலைப் புலிகளே...

அனைத்துக்கண்களும் இப்போது முல்லைத்தீவை நோக்கி. தாய்த் தமிழகம் உணர்வுபூர்வமாக உங்கள் பக்கம்தான் நிற்கிறது. வேறு ஏதாவது செய்ய வேண்டும் எனவும் விரும்புகிறது. ஆனால் என்ன செய்வது உங்களுக்கு அமைந்தது போன்ற உன்னத தலைவன் எங்களுக்கில்லையே...

இந்தியா, பாகிஸ்தான், சீனா ஆயுதம் கொடுத்தும், ஜப்பான் பணம் கொடுத்தும், கூடுதலாக, இந்தியா நாட்டாமை செய்தும் தமிழர்களைக் கொள்கின்றனரென்றால். நீங்கள் உங்கள் மெளனத்தின் மூலமாகவும், பாராமுகத்தின் மூலமாகவும் அதே கொலையைத்தான் செய்து கொண்டிருக்கிறீர்கள் என்பதை ஏன் உணரவில்லை? ஆயுதம் தாங்கி போராடுவதால் மட்டுமே யாரும் தீவிரவாதியாகிட மாட்டார்கள். அறத்திற்கே அன்பு சார்பென்ப அறியார். மறத்திற்கும் அஃதே துணை என்று பாடியுள்ளான் எங்கள் திருவள்ளூவர்.

நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் தாக்குதல் நடத்திய, மும்பை தொடர் வெடிகுண்டுகள், பிறகு அண்மையில் நடந்த தாக்குதல் எனப் பலவாறாக இந்திய மக்களைக்கொன்று குவித்த பாகிஸ்தானோடு இணைந்து கொண்டு தமிழர்களைக் கொண்று குவிக்கிறது. அப்படியானால், பாகிஸ்தானின் இந்திய மீதான பயங்கரவாதமென்பது இந்தியாலிபாகிஸ்தான் இருதரப்பு அதிகார வர்க்கங்களும் தங்கள் மக்களைச் சுரண்ட பரஸ்பர புரிதலுடன் உருவாக்கிக் கொண்ட ஒன்று என்ற எம் சந்தேகம் ஒருபக்கம் இருக்க, இப்போது, விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தீவிரவாதிகள் அதனால்தான் சண்டை என்கிறது.

ராஜீவ் காந்தியைக் கொன்றார்கள் என்கிறது. ராஜீவ் காந்தி ஒரு கவுன்சிலரோ, மாவட்டச் செயலாளரோ அல்ல. அவரை ஏற்கனவே ஒருமுறை கொலை செய்யும் முயற்சி இலங்கையில் நடைபெற்றிருந்த போதும் அந்தக் கொலைகாரன் விசாரிக்கப்படவில்லை. ராஜீவ் காந்தியைக் கொல்ல முயன்ற அந்த சிங்கள வீரன் ஆகியோரையும் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டவர்களாக இணைத்துக்கொண்டு மறுபடியும் விசாரிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பது என் கோரிக்கைகளில் ஒன்று.

ராஜீவ் மீது புலிகளுக்கு வருத்தம் இருந்திருக்கலாமே தவிர, கோபம் இருந்திருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை. காரணம், ராஜீவ் இந்திராவின் புதல்வர். இந்திரா, தமிழீழத்தின் சிறு தெய்வங்களில் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்குப் பக்கத்திலிருப்பவர்.

இந்தியா சொல்லும் காரணங்கள் அடிக்கடி மாறுவதிலிருந்தே இந்தியா நியாயத்திற்குப் புறம்பாகத்தான் இந்தப்போரில் ஈடுபட்டிருப்பது அம்பலமாகி இருக்கிறது. இப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு சூழலில் நீங்கள் ஏன் நேரடியாகத் தலையிடக்கூடாது? புலிகள் போர் நிறுத்தத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி ஆயுதம் குவிக்கிறார்கள் என்றது இலங்கை. சந்திரிகாவோ, ரணிலோ, மகிந்தாவோ கடந்த காலங்களில் ஒரு கடவுளாக அல்ல, மனிதர்களாகக்கூட நடந்துகொண்டதில்லை. இவர்கள் ஒரு நிர்ப்பந்தத்தின் பெயரில் போர் நிறுத்தத்திற்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டுவிட்டார்கள் என்பதால் மட்டுமே போராளிகள் ஆயுதங்களை ஒப்படைத்துவிட வேண்டும். புனரமைப்புப் பணிகளில் ஈடுபடக்கூடாது என்று எதிர்பார்ப்பது என்னவகை நியாயம்? தாங்கள் நேர்மையாக நடந்துகொள்வோம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையை உண்டாக்குவது மூலமாக மட்டுமே போராளிகளைலிஆயுதத்தைக் கீழே வைக்கச்செய்ய முடியும். கடந்த கால அரசுகள் எவையும் அப்படி செயல்படவில்லை.

உதாரணம் ரணில்லி கருணா. ஆனால், புலிகள் போர் நிறுத்தத்தைப் பயன்படுத்திக்கொண்டு செய்தது ஆயுதம் வாங்கியது மட்டுமல்ல, அது காலாகாலமாக நடப்பதுதானேலி ஓர் அரசு நிர்வாகத்தையே உருவாக்கியுருக்கிறார்கள். சர்வதேசத்தின் கண்களில் இது தீவிரவாதமா?

அப்பாவித் தமிழர்களைக் காப்பதற்காகத்தான் போரிடுவதாக பசப்புகிறது இந்தியா. ஆயுத தளபாடங்களும், உளவு விமானங்களும்தான் இலங்கை போகின்றனவே தவிர, இந்தியாவால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட ஒரு பாராசெட்டமால் மாத்திரையைக் காட்டச் சொல்லுங்கள் பார்க்கலாம். இந்த லட்சணத்தில், தமிழீழ மக்களுக்கான வசதிகளை இலங்கை அரசு செய்யுமாம். அதற்கு இந்தியா உதவுமாம்... வேலிக்கு ஓணான் சாட்சி! இப்போது சர்வதேச செஞ்சுலுவைச் சங்கத்தின் ஆம்புலன்ஸ்களைத் தாக்கினார்களே, அவர்களும் விடுதலைப் புலிகளா?

 பிரான்சின் 17 மனித உரிமையாளர்களைக் கொலை செய்தார்களே, அவர்களும் விடுதலைப் புலிகளா? சீனாவின் டாங்கிகள், இந்தியாவின் உளவு விமானங்கள், பாகிஸ்தானின் ஆர்டிலரிகள் மட்டுமல்ல... இப்போது எம்மக்களைக் கொலைசெய்து வருவது சர்வதேச சமூகத்தின் மெளனமும்தான் என்பதை எப்போது உணர்வீர்கள்லிநியாயத்தின்பால் பெருவிருப்பு கொண்ட ஒரு மக்கள் சமூகம் பூமியிலிருந்து முற்றாகத் துடைத்தழிக்கப்பட்ட பிறகா? அபாரிஜின்கள், மாயா, இன்கா வரிசையில் நாங்களும் சேர்க்கப்படுவது உங்கள் நோக்கமென்றால், எங்கள் பழங்கதைகள் ஒன்றின்படி ஒவ்வொருநாளும் ஏதேனும் ஒரு வீட்டிலிருந்து ஒருவர் வந்து உங்கள் முன்னால் தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கிறோம்...

எங்கள் சகோதரிகளையும், குழந்தைகளையும் விட்டுவிட்டுச் சொல்லுங்கள். தாங்க முடியவில்லை. அவர்களெல்லாம் மனமார சிரிப்பதை ஒருநாள் பார்ப்போம் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில்தான் நாங்கள் போராடிக் கொண்டிருப்பதே. ஒரு பேச்சுக்கு ஒத்துக்கொள்வதென்றாலும்கூட, விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டியவர்கள் என்றாலும் அப்படி ஒரு தண்டனையை வழங்கும் யோக்கியதை இந்தியாவுக்கோ, இலங்கைக்கோ கிடையாது.

காலம் கடந்து வழங்கப்படும் நீதி அநீதியை விடக் கொடுமையானது.

1. இந்தியா உடனடியாக தமிழீழத்தின் பகுதிகளிலிருந்து தன் துருப்புகளைத் திரும்பப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதோடு, மேற்கொண்டு செயற்கைக்கோள் உதவிகள், ராடார் போன்ற உதவிகளைச் செய்யக்கூடாதென்று சர்வதேச சமூகத்தால் கண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். இலங்கையோடு இந்தியா அரசு நடந்தும் முக்கியத்துவமற்ற பேச்சுப்பரிமாற்றங்கள்கூட சர்வதேச சமூகம் மூலமாகவே நடக்க வேண்டும். தமிழக மக்களிடமும், உலகெங்கும் பரந்து வாழும் தமிழீழத்தாரிடமும் இந்தியா பகிரங்க மன்னிப்பு கோர வேண்டும்.

2. ஐ.நா. பொதுச்செயலாளரான பான் கி மூன், தொடர்ந்து தன் தாயகமான சீனாவிற்கு ஆதரவான நிலைப்பாட்டிலிருந்து, ஒரு தலைப்பட்சமாக செயல்பட்டு வருவதால், ஈழம் தொடர்பான முடிவெடுக்கும் அதிகாரம் அவருக்கு வழங்கப்படக்கூடாது.

3. இலங்கை அரசு எந்தெந்த நாடுகளிடமெல்லாம் கோரப்பட்டு புலிகள் மீது தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டதோ அந்தந்த நாடுகளில் புலிகள் மீதான தடை நீக்கப்பட்டு, தடை செய்யப்பட்ட அமைப்பின் உறுப்பினர் என்ற குற்றத்திற்காக சிறையிலிருக்கும் அதன் உறுப்பினர்கள் எதுவித நிபந்தனையுமற்று உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்யப்பட வேண்டும்.

4. புலிகளின் உறுப்பினர்கள் மீதான பாஸ்போர்ட் தொடர்பான குற்றங்கள் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டு, அவர்கள் விடுதலை செய்யப்பட வேண்டும்.

5. புலிகளோடு தொடர்புடையது என்னும் குற்றச்சாட்டின் பேரில் தடை செய்யப்பட தொழில் நிறுவனங்களின் உரிமம் மீண்டும் அளிக்கப்படுவதோடு, தக்க நட்ட ஈடும் வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

6. ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை வழக்கு இண்டர்போலால் விசாரிக்கப்பட்டு, உண்மையான குற்றவாளிகள் இனம் காணப்பட வேண்டும்.

9. புலிகள் கை பலவீனமான நேரத்தில், மலையக மக்கள் மீது நடந்து வந்த தாக்குதல், எதிர்காலத்தில் அப்பகுதிகளில் மீண்டும் ஒரு பாரிய இன அழிவு ஏற்படுத்தப்படுமோ என்ற அச்சத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியிருப்பதால், மலையக மக்கள் தமிழீழத்தோடு இணைய விரும்புகிறார்களா என்பதை வாக்கெடுப்பு மூலம் அறிந்து அதன்படி செயல்பட வேண்டும் இந்த விசயத்தில் மலையக மக்களின் முடிவே இறுதியானது.

10. சென்னையில், குடிபோதையில் அப்பாவித் தமிழர்கள் மீது துப்பாக்கிப் பிரயோகம் செய்து, நீதிமன்றத்தால் தண்டிக்கப்பட்ட டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தாவின் தண்டணைக்காலம் பூர்த்தியாகும் காலத்திற்கும் இலங்கைக்குத் தப்பிச்சென்று விட்டதால், அவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு, தமிழக பொலிசார் வசம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

11. பத்திரிகையாளரான லசந்தவின் கொலைக்குக் காரணமான அனைவரும் தண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

12. தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு தஞ்சம் புகுந்திருக்கும் சிங்கள பத்திரிகையாளர்களுக்கு தகுந்த பாதுகாப்பு வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும்.

English Translation of last letter by Muttukumar

"My dear working Tamils...

Vannakam. At a time when you are busy getting to work, I am pained that I have to meet you in this way. But there is no other way. My name is Muttukumar. I am a journalist. At present I am working in a newspaper in Chennai.Like you, I too have daily read the news reports and the internet of the daily killings of our fellow Tamils in Eelam. Like you I am also one of the countless Tamils who have been unable to eat or sleep.Senth Thamizh Nadu has given life to those who have come to it, but our blood relations in Eelam are dying. When we raise our voices and call for an end to this killing, the Indian imperial government says neither yes nor no and grows silent. If the Indian government�s war is just, then it should engage in that war openly. Why does it do it in secret and with deceit?..

The Indian ruling establishment is eager to annihilate a very large population by using Rajiv Gandhi's assassination in order to satisfy the vengeful and selfish goals of a few individuals. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam were not the only ones alleged to be involved with the murder of Rajiv Gandhi. The Jain Commission Report held that the people of Tamil Nadu were also guilty of this murder. If so, are you also the murderers who killed Rajiv Gandhi?

They say the British killed people in Jallianwallahbagh, but what are they doing in Mullaiththeevu and Vanni? Look at the children being killed there. Aren't you reminded of your children? Look at the women being raped? Don't you have a sister in that age? When Rajiv Gandhi was killed why were frontline leaders of the Congress not with him? Why did Jayalalithaa, an alliance partner, not go to take part in such a massive rally that Rajiv took part in? Such questions are not being raised, and they are not being answered by them either. People, please think. Are they your leaders? What is the guarantee that these people--who indulge in politics through their money and muscle power--will not target us tomorrow? If they turn against us tomorrow, who will be on our side?

Kalaignar [Karunanidhi]? Even at that point of time, he will make an announcement that the members of parliament will resign. Then, he will say that he understands  the Central Government. Then, he will once again request for a right decision, and pass a resolution in the Legislative Assembly - like actor Vadivel's comedy in the film Winner where he claims that no one has touched him until a particular month, a particular week, a particular time. People! A paper will not achieve anything! Now, the Election-time Tamil Kalaignar, who wants to be the leader of the worldwide Tamils and who desires to transfer all the money in Tamil Nadu to the coffers of his family, has hidden himself in the hospital afraid of bearing the brunt of people's anger. This paper tiger staged such major fights in order to get the required cabinet portfolios for his ministers, but truthfully, what has he done for Tamil or for the Tamils? He has himself admitted once, "Will the honey-gatherer remain without licking the back of his hand?" If we look at his puppet-shows, it looks as if he has done a lot of licking...

Law college students who have entered the field through your hunger strike...

As a fellow Tamil, I wish you all success. I also regret that I am unable to join you. Not only the Eelam Tamils problem, but even the protests seeking water for Cauvery, any protest in support of Tamil Nadu, you, and lawyers, are the first ones to fight. Even this time, only these two sections were the first to voice their protest even four months back. I have a suspicion that only in order to destroy your Tamil feeling, the Indian intelligence would have systematically instigated caste-feelings among you and paved the way for the skirmish that occured at Ambedkar law college. It is the caste of students that takes the initiative in people's revolutionary struggles all over the world. Likewise, even in Tamil Nadu, an earlier generation of students in similar circumstances took to the streets before the Indian repulic day and chased away national parties, including the Congress from the Tamil land.

So, an historically important juncture has again reached your hands. Normally, such things don't take place in world history. Like it happened last time, don't let selfish people steal the fruits of your labour. The DMK that came to power riding high on the efforts of your struggle, first made a law that students should not take part in politics. After capturing power, it blunted Tamil feelings, and turned the entire Tamil population into a petitioning tribe. Smash that tradition. Don't believe anybody who asks you to submit a petition. This is the juncture when we should burn the differences of caste and religion between us. Throw away your fasting and enter the field.

In reality, the Indian military's role in Sri Lanka is not just against the Tamils. It is against all Indians. They tried the sexual techniques they learnt from Sinhalese soldiers with innocent Assamese women! They learnt the strategies of how to crush the Tamil Tigers from the Sinhalese and they applied it to crush the fighters in the north-eastern states! As if this were not enough, what do we learn from the fact that the Indian and Sri Lankan peacekeeping forces were deported from Haiti because of sexual misdemeanour? That the India-Sri Lanka alliance is not an ideological alliance, but a sexual one! So, because the alliance between the Indian and Sri Lankan armies is against the fundamental human rights of the Indian people, try to rally students and democratic organizations towards your cause on a national level.

It is possible for people to do all this. However, they lack the right leadership. Make leaders from among yourselves. Change this protest from law college students, to students of all colleges. Let your frenzy and people's fury change the history of Tamil Nadu. Thrash and throw away muscle power, money power and power craze. This is possible only by you. "We are Tamil students, we are the life of Tamil Nadu. If Tamils are allowed peace, we will read magazines. Otherwise, we will surge like volacanoes." Convert these lines of poet Kasi Anandan into your intellectual weapon. The police force will try to lay my body to rest. Don't allow them to do that. Capture my dead body, don't bury it, and use it as a trump card to sharpen your struggle. Students of the Tamil Nadu medical colleges who will treat me, or conduct my post-mortem, I should have done some virtuous deed to be cut at your hands. Because, while upper-caste medical students in the rest of India were fighting against reservation, you were standing alone and fighting in support of reservation in medical education. What you do to me can remain aside. What are you going to do for our brothers, the Eelam Tamils, from your side?

Tamil Eelam is not the need of Tamil Eelam alone, it is the need of Tamil Nadu also. Because of the fishermen of Rameswaram. There are laws in the world to protect goats and cows.

But, are the Tamils of Rameswaram and the Tamils of Eelam lower than cows and goats? The Indian media carries on a systematic campaign that Tamil fishermen who cross [maritime] boundaries are attacked because of the suspicion that they might be Tamil Tigers. Don't they ever read newspapers? Often, Taiwanese fishermen are arrested at Chennai because they lost their way at sea. If it is possible for people from Taiwan, which is thousands of kilometers away to lose their way, can't they believe the fact that the Tamil fisherman from Rameswaram, which is just 12 miles away from Lanka strays away from his route?

Brothers of other states who are living in Tamil Nadu...

You will have known from experience that Tamil Nadu is the only state where you can enjoy greater peace and protection when compared even with your home-state. Today, we are facing a major crisis. Our government is killing our brothers in Eelam by using our name, our Indian identity. The Indian government wants us to be isolated in this struggle. We don't want that to happen. So, please tell the Central Government that you too support our brothers who are fighting. It is my opinion that this will not only strengthen the hands of your leaders who are part of the Government at the Center, but is will also prevent the danger of a Navnirman Sena, or a Sena from being formed within Tamil Nadu in the future.

Youth belonging to the Tamil Nadu Police Force...

I have great respect for you. Irrespective of what other people did for the sake of Tamil, you are making Tamil live by using Tamil words in everyday contexts, such as calling employees as 'ayya'. I believe that you would have joined the police force with noble intentions of serving the people and weeding out anti-social elements. But, does the ruling class allow you to do that? By allowing you to commit minor mistakes, the ruling class hides its major crimes. It converts you into its trained henchmen, and makes you fight against the same people whom you wanted to serve. It is the Tamil Nadu police who guard Delhi's Tihar Jail. One of the oldest police forces in India, the Tamil Nadu police is one of the very best. But, are you given that respect by the Indian government? When Union Minister Chidambaram returned to New Delhi following his Chennai visit, Central Government security agencies have refused to handover his security arrangements at the Chennai airport to you. When asked why, they have derided your capabilities and said that they are aware of how you protected Rajiv Gandhi.

While it is true that the Tamil Nadu police could not save the life of Rajiv Gandhi, it is equally true that the majority of those who died with him were only innocent policemen. Your dedication is unquestionable. But it was later exposed that this Indian intelligence had been careless even after coming to know that there were threats to Rajiv's life...

Even if you have been against innocent people all this while, you are one of the pride of Tamil Nadu. At this historical juncture, only if you stand on the side of the people, you can regain the respect that you have lost among the people. Just once try to dedicate yourself to the fellow Tamils. They will carry you in golden plates. The feeling of gratitude among Tamil people is immeasurable. Because somebody spent his own money and built a dam, the Tamils on the Mullai river in Madurai built a temple and name their children after that man. All that you have to do is, when Tamil Nadu is boiling, you should refuse to cooperate with the Central Government officials, and you should reveal to the Tamil people who are the ones working for R.A.W and CBI. Do at least this. The people will take care of the rest.

People of Tamil Eelam, and Liberation Tigers....

All eyes are now in the direction of Mullaiththeevu. Tamil Nadu is also emotionally only on your side. It also wants to do something else. But what can we do? We don't have a true leader like you have... Please don't leave hope. Such a leader will emerge from Tamil Nadu only in such desperate times. Until then, strengthen the hands of the Tigers. Because the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation was placed in the hands of a few selfish people, the history of Tamil Nadu has been dragged to the stone ages. Please don't do that mistake.

Dear International Community, and our hope Obama...

We still have hope on you. But, there is no guarantee that a sovereign republic will not torture its people through ethnic discrimination. It is possible to cite instances from America's own history. After all, boxing hero Muhammed Ali said, "The little white in my community would have come only through rape..."

As long as you remain silent, India will never open its mouth. Perhaps India may break its silence after all the Tamils have been killed. Until then, are you going to keep looking at India's mouth?

They say that the war in Vanni is against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. They say that the Tigers are using the people as a human shield. If that is true, why does the Sri Lanka armedforces  come into the safety zone declared by the Government and kill people? This one evidence is enough that irrespective of whether the Tamil people are dependent on the Tigers or on the Government, they are going to be killed for the sole reason that they are Tamils. Is this not genocide?

If India, Pakistan and China are supplying arms, Japan is giving economic aid, and moreover India is supporting Sri Lanka and thus killing Tamils, why don't you realize that you are also committing the same murder by your silence and your blindness? Nobody becomes a terrorist simply by taking up arms. Our Thiruvalluvar has said: Arathirke anbucar penpa ariyaar/ marathirkum akthe thunai (The ignorant say that affection is appropriate only to righteousness, but it will also inspire heroism to be restrained).

Jayalalitha says that the Tigers should lay down arms--as though the problem arose because the Tigers took up arms. In reality, the Tigers were formed because of the genocide of Tamils in Eelam, and they are not the reason for it. They are not the reason, just an outcome.

As long as Indian Government's involvement was not exposed, it kept saying that this problem was an internal affair and that India could not interfere. It also said that it was aiding Sri Lanka in order to prevent China, Pakistan and America from gaining supremacy in Sri Lanka. Yet, to kill Tamils, it joins hands with Pakistan that has killed scores of Indians and was responsible for the attack on the Indian Parliament, the serial-blasts in Mumbai and the recent strikes in Mumbai. If that is so, we suspect that Pakistan's terrorism in India is a mutually agreed-upon concept created by both sides in order to exploit and squander their respective citizens.

Now, they say that the LTTE is a terrorist organization, hence the war. It says they killed Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi is not a councillor or a district secretary. When a Sinhalese attempted to kill him in Sri Lanka, he was not interrogated. One of my demands is that the Sinhalese soldier who tried to kill him earlier must also be included in the list of the accused and he must be interrogated again. The Tigers might have been sad with Rajiv, but they wouldn't have been angry with him. Because Rajiv was Indira's son. Indira, is next to MGR among the small gods who populate Tamil Eelam.

It has been clearly exposed that India is opposed to justice form the fact that it often changes the explanations that it offers. In such a situation, Sri Lanka said, Why don't you directly interfere, the Tigers are making use of the ceasefire to stock up weapons. Chandrika, or Ranil, or Mahinda were not gods in the past, they have not even behaved as human beings. Just because they agreed to the ceasefire in view of their compulsions, how could it be argued that the fighters should lay down their arms, or that they should not involve themselves in reconstruction activies. Only by bringing about the faith and confidence that you will behave honestly and truthfully, you can make the fighters lay down their weapons. No government in the past has honoured their promises. For instance, Ranil-Karuna. But the Tigers have not used the ceasefire to simply acquire weapons, but they have created a governmental administrative structure. Is this terrorism in the eyes of the world? India is trying to ingratiate itself by saying that it is fighting in order to save the innocent Tamils. Only sophisticated weaponry and spy planes from India are going to Sri Lanka; can they show a single paracetomol tablet that has gone from India? When will you realize this--after a people who greatly desire justice are totally wiped away from the face of the earth? If you are interested in adding us to the list of Aborigines, Maya and Inca peoples, each day one of us will come in front of you and kill ourselves, as it comes in one of our myths.... Please leave our sisters and our children alone. We are unable to bear this. We are fighting with the sole hope that one day we will watch them laugh whole-heartedly. Even if we accept for the sake of rhetoric that the LTTE should be punished, we must realize that both India and Sri Lanka lack the moral ground to hand out any punishment.

Justice derailed is worse than justice denied.

The International Community must condemn India and force it to immediately withdraw its troops from Sri Lanka, and be prevented from helping Sri Lanka through satellites and radars. Even unimportant discussions between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka should take place through the International Community. India should publicly apologize before the people of Tamil Nadu and the people of Tamil Eelam scattered across the world.

Because the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon is always functioning with a bias towards his homeland China, he must not be given the power to take any decision regarding Eelam.

All the countries who have banned the LTTE based on the request from Sri Lanka should immediately revoke the ban and unconditionally release all those who have been arrested because they belong to the LTTE.

Members of the LTTE should be forgiven for their passport related mistakes, and they should be immediately released.

The industries which have been banned based on the allegation that they are connected to the Tigers, should be given the licenses once again, and they should also be adequately compensated.

Rajiv Gandhi's murder should be investigated by the InterPol and the real guilty must be exposed.

Pranab Mukherjee, Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Chandrika, Udayanakkara, Kekaliya Rambukawela, Basil Rajapakse, Mahinda and Fonseka should be subjected to narco-analysis.

While the International Community shall have the right to recognize Tamil Eelam which is going to be formed, only the people of Tamil Eelam shall have the right to decide under whose leadership it should be formed.

When the Tigers were weakened militarily, the Upcountry Tamils were targetted, and it is feared that in the future that area might be subjected to a major genocidal pogrom. So, a referendum must be conducted among the Upcountry Tamils to know whether they want to join Tamil Eelam. In this matter, the decision of the Upcountry Tamils shall be final.

Douglas Devananda, who was punished by the courts for firing at innocent Tamil people in Chennai escaped to Sri Lanka before the period of imprisonment was completed. He must therefore be arrested and handed over to the Tamil Nadu police.

Everyone responsible for the murder of journalist Lasanta should be punished.

The Sinhalese journalists who have sought refuge in Tamil Nadu must be given adequate protection.

The Sinhalese couple who came as refugees to Tamil Nadu must be recognized as refugees, and the charges of passport-doctoring against them must be dropped.

The livelihood of families of Tamil fishermen shot dead should be secured.

Flashpoint in Tamil Nadu  over Eelam Tamil Conflict

A flashpoint has been reached in Tamil Nadu over the Sri Lankan Tamil cause. In full public glare, Muthukumar, an employee of a PMK-owned magazine, immolated himself in Chennai.

This has come a day after a petrol bomb was hurled at the printing press of a Tamil daily in Coimbatore that had been publishing anti-LTTE articles.

The incident has triggered more manifestations of anger and concern for the two and a half lakh Tamil civilians caught in the crossfire in Sri Lanka. Lawyers have announced an immediate boycott of courts in Tamil Nadu.

For political parties, the self-immolation has come as fresh ammunition to attack the Centre.

"Let this sacrifice of this martyr open the eyes and ears of the UPA which is both blind and deaf to the Tamils' suffering," said Vaiko, General Secretary, MDMK.

The pro-Tamil sentiment is also being echoed by prominent non-political voices of Chennai.

"Ceasefire is important. Otherwise there will be an almost psychopathic exodus of human beings from Earth to heaven. We cannot allow it," said Sharadha Ramanathan, a filmmaker.

A few top Congress leaders of the state have also received anonymous death threats for not prevailing upon their high command to bring about a ceasefire.

Tamil Nadu Political leaders hail Muthukumar's sacrifice

CHENNAI: Students, political activists, film personalities and members of the public turned up at the residence of Muthukumar, the youth who set himself ablaze on Thursday, condemning India's alleged "collusion" with Colombo in the ongoing war in Sri Lanka. The funeral will take place tomorrow.

Emotions ran high at the venue where his body was kept, with social and political activists and students setting fire to the effigies of Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa and Congress leaders and raising slogans condemning chief minister M Karunanidhi and the Centre.

PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI leaders D Pandian and R Nallakannu, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, Tamil National Movement leader, P Nedumaran and several others were present at Muthukumar's Kolathur residence in suburban Chennai. Shops and commercial establishments in the area downed shutters to condole the youth's death.

The occasion also turned out to be a forum for hailing the LTTE with the surcharged gathering raising slogans praising Prabhakaran and demanding immediate ceasefire in the island. Condemning the UPA government for colluding with Sri Lankan army, the activists raised slogans against the Centre and the chief minister. The government has announced a solatium of Rs. 2 lakh for the bereaved family.

Muthukumar, who worked with a journal, in his four-page dying declaration asked students not to allow anyone to bury his body and instead urged them to use it as a tool to further the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils. Some film personalities were also present at the venue.

Fearing that the situation might go out of hand, a large number of police personnel led by additional police commissioner AK Viswanathan was present at the venue. MDMK leader Vaiko read out the condolence message of LTTE's political wing head B Nadesan. Muthukumar's father Kumaresan said he was proud of his son.

Protests and strikes spread across Tamil Nadu, snarling traffic at major important roads particularly in Chennai, demonstrators held vigils in Coimbatore, Thiruvannaamalai and Salem paying homage to Muththukumar who self-immolated to show solidarity with Eezham Tamils, and Madras High Court Advocates Association boycotted courts on Friday, while mainstream media said the prevailing tension in Tamil Nadu can snowball into a potentially explosive situation.

The Advocates' Association demanded the intervention of the United Nations Security Council, and the president of the association, S Prabhakaran, strike was a warning to Rajapaksa to immediately halt the ethnic cleansing and the genocide taking place in the island, according to local reports.

He also condemned the Sri Lankan Government for making false statements that the LTTE had trapped the civilians, and added that it was only the Sri Lankan Army which was shooting the fleeing civilians.

Media personnel in Coimbatore and Thiruvannamalai paid a hero's homage to Muthukumar and lit candles to mark a vigil. Transgenders in Salem took out a procession to mourn his passing and to condemn the Indian Government. Members of the pro-Tamil parties including the VCK and PMK have put up digital banners of Muththukumar in several hundred locations across Tamil Nadu,

Simultaneously, students across the state undertook an oath to fulfill the dreams of "Martyr Muthukumar.� A fast-unto-death by students of the Tiruchi Law College also entered the third day Friday.

A student of the St.Xavier's College in Tirunelveali refused to accept his degree at the University Convocation after coming to the stage. He caused a fluttter when he said that unless peace entered into the lives of Eelam Tamils he would do without his degree, sources in Tirunelveali said.

Sensing the mood in the state, the Tamil Nadu police denied permission for the silent protest in which Tamil leaders Vaiko, Dr.S.Ramadoss, Thirumavalavan, Nedumaran and D. Pandian were to participate. The leaders however told media Thursday that they would violate the ban and hold their silent black-flag demonstration. However, a joint statement issued Friday by the leaders of the Eezham Tamils Protection Movement, announced that the silent protest scheduled to take place in the evening had been cancelled to facilitate attending Muthukumar's funeral.

Student leaders made it clear that they would not let Muthukumar to be buried immediately and foiled moves to hold the funeral on Friday. Student spokesperson said that they would hold protests by refusing to bury Muthukumar's corpse, to satisfy the last wish of Muthukumar that his mortal remains be used as a trump card to carry forward our struggle," they said.

Students, actors, activists and political leaders thronged Kolathur to pay their last respects to Muthukumar's remains. Leaders of the Eezham Tamil Protection Movement, BJP MP S Thirunavukkarasu, Traders Union President Vellaiyan, Director Bharatiraja, actor-politician Sarathkumar, actors Satyaraj and Vadivelu, lyricist Thamarai also paid their homage to Muthukumar.

Director Cheran who spoke in honour of Muthukumar also endorsed the students point of view. "If Muthukumar is laid to rest before the war is stopped, his soul will not rest in peace," he said.

At the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where Muthukumar was admitted, he had spoken highly of the Tamil people, and had urged the doctors to convey news of his self-immolation to his "elder brothers" Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi founder Thol. Thirumavalavan and LTTE leader V Pirapaharan. Those were his last words, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

In fact, 34 law students had been arrested in Chennai on Friday after they tried to lay siege to the Sri Lankan High Commission. It came just after 26-year-old Muthukumar set himself on fire in Chennai to protest the killing of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka. Muthukumar's funeral is scheduled on Saturday. The body is kept in a glass box in the open at  Kolathur in North Chennai. Nearly 2,000 people have already gathered there. The crowd is burning effigies of Karunanidhi, Sonia Gandhi and other politicians.
 

More than 1000 Tamil activists besiege Tanjore Air Force base: 244 Arrested

More than a 1000 Tamil activists belonging to various political organizations and social movements laid siege to the Tanjore Air Force base Saturday morning violating prohibitive orders. The activists led by Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam President Kolathur T.S.Mani and Thamil Desiya Pothuvudamai Katchi (Tamil National Communist Party) General Secretary P. Maniarasan were protesting against the air-force base at Thanjavur being used by the Indian Army to supply lethal and non-lethal weaponry to Sri Lanka in its genocidal war on the Tamils.

Speaking to news persons, Maniarasan charged that India's weapon supply to Colombo was routed through the Thanjavur air-force base, from where it would reach the Palali air-force base in Sri Lanka.

According to media sources in Thanjavur, this attempt to besiege the air force base led to a violent confrontation between the police and the activists.

More than 1000 activists, including Tamil leaders Kolathur Mani and Maniarasan have been arrested.

244 of the 1000 people arrested in Thanjavur have been remanded to judicial custody and are presently lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison. Those imprisoned include women and children.

Muthukumar was not there but his spirit was there. The lamentable self-immolation of the youth and the last statement he distributed had significant impact especially on the youth of Tamil Nadu and triggered off a series of consequences, unprecedented in such acts earlier in Tamil Nadu. Apart from public unrest, tension and street violence, the deeper manifestation was the open public defiance of the Government of India ban against the LTTE, which the people demonstrated carrying LTTE flags, placards and images of Pirapaharan in the funeral procession of Muthukumar. The intensification of student uprising as an aftermath of his sacrifice has made the state government to close colleges indefinitely, reports a journalist from Tamil Nadu.

Security deployed by the government for the funeralAbout a hundred thousand people, including college students from all over Tamil Nadu, cadres of various pro-Eelam political parties, women organizations, mediapersons and members of the public participated in Muthukumar's funeral procession Saturday that lasted eight hours. As fiery soul-stirring slogans rent the air, mourners at the emotional procession prominently displayed Tamil National Leader Pirapaharan's photographs and the Tamil Eelam flag.

Prominent Tamil nationalist leaders Vaiko (General Secretary, MDMK), Thirumavalavan (President, VCK) and Nedumaran (President, Tamil Nationalist Movement) and leading film personalities like Bharatiraja, Cheran, Seeman, Maniratnam, Selvamani and Mansoor Ali Khan took part in the procession. Also present were the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State General Secretary Tamilisai Sounderrajan, Traders Union President T Vellaiyan and Tamil National Alliance MP Srikandha.

Muthukumar's mortal remains were placed on a decorated and modified hearse at 3:00 p.m. Law college students turned pall-bearers and carried Muthukumar's coffin to the hearse. The vehicle carried the photographs of Muthukumar along with that of LTTE leader Pirapaharan. It took eight hours for the three-kilometer long procession to traverse a mere distance of six kilometres from Muthukumar's sister Tamilarasi's home in Kolathur to the Moolakoththalam cremation ground.

All shops in the district had downed their shutters as a mark of solidarity. Members of the public welcomed the procession and saluted Muthukumar's sacrifice by lighting torches. College students from all over Tamil Nadu, and members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK), Revolutionary Youth Front (RYF), Revolutionary Students Front (RSF), and other Tamil organizations took part in the procession.

Tension prevailed when hoardings of Sonia Gandhi, Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi were torn; and wall-writings displaying their names were damaged by the youth taking part in the rally. Heavy police and paramiltary presence could do nothing to dampen the courageous spirit of the students. Slogans raised in the meeting were in support of a separate Tamil homeland Eelam, and in praise of National Leader Pirapakaran and the Tamil Tigers. For the first time in recent years, such a public display of the Eelam flag and Pirapakaran's photograph has taken place in Tamil Nadu, a journalist taking part in the event observed.

Even before the funeral procession entered the cremation ground, news reached the students that the Tamil Nadu Government had ordered indefinite closure of all colleges and hostels. This lead to students vigorously voicing their protests and venting their anger by raising anti-government slogans and threatening dire consequences if the ruling class failed to respect their sentiments. As a result of their frustration, law college students spontaneously protested by sitting in the middle of the procession and blocking the roads. They vowed to prevent the funeral from taking place until the government paid heed to their demands. This stalled the procession by two hours. Only after they were cajoled and convinced by several leaders, they agreed to allow the procession to move.

The funeral procession carrying Muthukumar's body entered the Moolakoththalam cremation ground at 10.30 p.m. The last rites were performed subsequently.

At 11:10 p.m. his funeral pyre was lit by his father Kumaresan. Condolence speeches were made at the Moolakoththalam cremation ground itself. Political leaders Vaiko and Thirumavalavan eulogised Muthukumar and saluted his bravery in their fiery speeches. Veteran CPI leader Nallakannu, Traders Union President T Vellaiyan and director Cheran also spoke on this occasion.The last of the speeches ended at exactly 12.07 a.m on Sunday.

About five thousand people stayed in the burial ground till the end of this tense and teary ceremony.

Over ten thousand people, including youth, women and children, on Friday paid homage to Muthukumar, the 26-year-old man who set himself on fire on Thursday demanding a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. His body was kept for public viewing at Kolathur.

Amid the emotionally charged atmosphere, Muthukumar�s family turned down Rs 2 lakh solatium offer of Local Administration Minister M K Stalin.

A big pandal was erected on a road near the office of the local Vannigar Sangam. Till late afternoon, the mood was not to have the funeral till the war in Sri Lanka was called off. However, the uncertainty ended after leaders of the Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Organisation, an umbrella organisation of political parties and non-political pressure groups, decided that the funeral would take place on Saturday afternoon. Mourners would gather at 12 noon to begin a nearly 7.5 km silent march at 3 pm towards Moolakotthalai near Basin Bridge. This extension is to enable sympathisers from all over the state pay their respects to Muthukumar and participate in the funeral.

CHENNAI: Amid tight security arrangements, the body of Muthukumar, 26, who committed suicide in protest against the massacre of Tamils in Sri Lanka on Thursday was taken to the Moolakothalam burial ground here for cremation late on Saturday night.

Hundreds of youths belonging to various colleges, Tamil organisations and the Radical Students� Youth Federation took part in the funeral procession that started from Kolathur and took more than four hours to reach the burial ground. They raised slogans, eulogising the sacrifice of Muthukumar and condemned the Centre for extending support to Sri Lankan armed forces.

A large contingent of police, led by Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) A.K. Viswanathan, was deployed along the route.

General strike

The �Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement� has called a general strike on February 4 as part of its efforts at stopping the war.

The announcement came after a meeting in which Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, Tamizhar Desiya Iyakkam leader P. Nedumaran, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol .Tirumavalavan and Tamil Nadu Government Officials Union president G. Sooriyamurthy took part.

The movement also announced financial assistance of Rs.3 lakh to the family of Muthukumar.

All government and private colleges, including hostels, across the State will remain closed until further orders because of student unrest, Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi stated in a release.

In a related development, 300 prisoners lodged at the Puzhal central prison observed a day�s fast on Saturday, expressing anguish over the killing of innocent Tamils.

Meena Kandasamy on Martyr Muthukumar - 'You cry/ For the dying. He dies/ For the crying'

I went to Muthukumar�s funeral Saturday, and though I paid my homage, I never had the courage to look at his face. It was not because I am against curiousity of any kind, it is just that, I couldn�t get the nerve. Since Thursday, I must have read his last letter at least ten times, until I could no longer bear to reread it. Or perhaps, I knew its contents by heart, by then. And every time I read, I cried. It is sad to think that someone wrote so much, so powerfully and then went on to print it, and then go to Shastri bhavan and set himself on fire.

And he was woefully young and talented. And sharp and critical and brutally frank. There�s no reason why he should have tried to escape from life. I was all the while reminded only of Kasi Anandan ayya�s short poem Poraali (Fighter) You cry/ For the dying. He dies/ For the crying.

That sort of sums up Muthukumar. But I think his mission was successful. He conveyed a message that thousands of public meetings, posters, pamphlets couldn�t convey. I was so disoriented after this letter, I can�t put it down into words. Not here, of all places. It is solely because of Muthukumar that I saw the Tiger flag in Tamil Nadu. It is because of him that I saw placards of the Tamil National Leader Pirapakaran in a massive procession. It is because of him that I witnessed a students� upsurge on such a scale. It is because of Muthukumar that I heard slogans I would have never had the courage or the context to imagine.

I salute his sacrifice.

Last week alone, hundreds of Tamil civilians, particularly young children have been killed by the genocidal Sinhalese military. And all of us know, and are afraid to say, that this is India�s war. The escapism that I saw around me, the refusal to acknowledge the reality, the ever-ready helpless shrug, everything�s disappeared. The media and the state government are trying hard to cover up, and to curtail, but no one can singe a blinding sun. There�s only one word on the lips of those I know, and those I love: Tamil Eelam.

You can�t hear me talking about anything else too.

About Meena Kandasamy

Meena Kandasamy is one of the brightest young poets to emerge in the South in recent years, of whom the noted poet Kamala Das says: �Older by nearly half a century, I acknowledge the superiority of her poetic vision and wish her access to the magical brew of bliss and tears each true poet is forced to partake of..."

Meena Kandasamy (1984) would like to describe herself as a woman writer who is obsessed with revolutionary Dr.Ambedkar�s message of caste annihilation. (But since people aren�t judged by what they say are, and instead by what they have done, here�s her brief profile.)

Two of her poems Mascara and My Lover Speaks of Rape have won first prizes in pan-Indian poetry contests. Her poems have been published widely in India and abroad through journals like The Little Magazine, Indian Literature, Kavya Bharati, Carapace, Cerebration, Kritya, Pratilipi, Indian Horizons, Sweet Magazine, Muse India, Great Works, Slow Trains and the Quarterly Literary Review Singapore. Her first collection of poems, Touch, with a foreword by Kamala Das, was published by Peacock Books (Frog Books, Mumbai) in August 2006.

She was the Editor of The Dalit, a bimonthly alternative English magazine of the Dalit Media Network in its first year of publication from 2001-2002. Her essays and reviews have been published in Tehelka, The Hindu Literary Review, The New Indian Express, Communalism Combat and Biblio.

She has translated about a dozen books. Significant among her translations are the writings and speeches of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (Liberation Panthers Party) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan (Talisman: Extreme Emotions of Dalit Liberation (2003) and Uproot Hindutva: The Fiery Voice of the Liberation Panthers (2004), Samya, Kolkota). Besides translating a lot of Tamil Dalit poems into English, she has also translated the poetry and fables of Tamil Eelam national poet Kasi Anandan.

She is a contributing editor to the Dalit literature section of MuseIndia.com and considers herself lucky to be one of twenty-one woman writers from South Asia selected for 21 under 40: New Fiction for a New Generation, the Zubaan Anthology of Young Women Writing published in February 2007. She served on the three-member jury of the Prakriti Foundation�s One Billion Eyes Documentary Film Festival held in August 2007. She is also one of the 25 participating poets in Poetry with Prakriti, a poetry festival organized by the Prakriti Foundation and Landmark bookstore-chain. You can read most of her poem�s here.

Having majored in Linguistics and English Literature, she is presently pursuing her Ph.D. specializing in classroom dynamics and language teaching. After she is done with her doctoral programme, she plans to revise The Gypsy Goddess, her novel-in-progress.

Neethivanan attempts to follow in Muthukumar's Foot Steps -  unrest among Tamil Nadu youth over the Lankan Tamils issue seems to be escalating by the day

Close on the heels of self-immolation by Muthukumar demanding immediate ceasefire in Sri Lanka, a Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) volunteer attempted suicide by jumping from a mobile tower at Alapakkam in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu today.

Police sources said Deenadayalan (22) alias Neethivanan, a VCK Youth Wing Member, scaled the 160-foot mobile transmission tower carrying pamphlets in his hand. Standing atop the tower, he shouted slogans condemning the Sri Lankan Government and demanded immediate ceasefire.

He also appealed to the Indian Government to stop providing any military assistance to Lanka and suddenly jumped from the tower. He was rushed to a local hospital. As his condition was critical, he was shifted to the SRMC Hospital at suburban Porur here.

VCK Legislator Ravikumar and PMK MLA T VelMurugan rushed to the spot. The unrest among Tamil Nadu youth over the Lankan Tamils issue seems to be escalating by the day after the self-immolation of 26-year-old Muthukumar in the city on January 29, espousing the cause of Tamils. P Ravi, an activist of VCK's Youth Wing 'Ilamchiruthaigal Ezhuchi Paasarai (IEP),' attempted self-immolation at Pallapatti Village in Dindigul District. He was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai where he was battling for life.
