- Youth tortured in Jaffna police
station

The
Jaffna regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka
(HRCSL) has determined after an inquiry that the fundamental human
rights of Mr.Gajendran (20) was violated by the Police when he was
detained in the Jaffna police station for investigation on 17 March
this year. The matter has been forwarded to the head quarters of the
HRCSL for necessary legal action against the errant police officers,
sources said.
The Jaffna regional office of the HRCSL has brought this to the
notice of the National Police Commission (NPC) and the Inspector
General of Police (IGP) for necessary action, sources said.
According to Jaffna regional office of the HRCSL, Gajendran was
allegedly tortured by police personnel led by a sub-inspector when
he being held in the Jaffna police station for inquiry.
HRCSL Jaffna regional office conducted an inquiry into the complaint
made by Mr. Gajendran and found evidence of torturing the youth by
police officials, sources said.
