Principal against LTTE  Child Conscription Gunned down

A Principal who rose against continuing child conscription of Tamil Tigers (LTTE) was shot and killed by two suspected Tamil Tiger pistol men on Tuesday (11) night around 8.30 p.m. when he was at his residence in the general area of Kopai, about 5 km northeast of Jaffna. The victimized principal at Kopai Christian College, Mr. N. Sivakadasan (59) of Manippai Road, Kopay North, Kopay was at home with his eight-year old child and the wife when two Tamil Tiger pistol men stormed his house and shot him at close range.

Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim has consistently risen against LTTE practice of child conscription. The principal fell dead on the spot inside his home after pistol men struck him in front of his child.

The Jaffna Magistrate visited the victim’s house and conducted the Magisterial inquiry into the assassination, the same night. The post-mortem was to be conducted at Jaffna hospital shortly.

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission was to be informed. The Kopay Police are conducting investigations.

Slain principal's students walk out in protest

Hundreds of school children, attached to Christian College in Kopay walked out of their school on Wednesday (12) afternoon and protested against the murder of their principal by suspected Tamil Tigers while he was at home in the general area of Kopay, the previous night (11).

Those children condemned the killing of their principal after trying to disrupt traffic on Point Pedro road but the Police diverted traffic and minimized inconvenience to the public.

"...the Principal of Kopay Christian College, who had risen against continuing child conscription by the LTTE, was shot dead on Tuesday night by an unidentified pistol gang member.

Military sources said the 59-year-old principal N Sivakadasam was at his home in Kopay with his eight-year old child and wife when two suspected LTTE pistol men stormed his house and shot him at close range. The principal fell dead on the spot.

A senior military official said the victim had consistently raised his voice against the LTTE’s child conscription drive and that relations soured with the LTTE over recent incidents. It is also learnt that the victim was one of the organizers of the recent Pongu Thamil ceremony in Jaffna organized by the LTTE.

Following the killing, students of the school staged a protest campaign yesterday and security was tightened in the area to prevent any violent incidents.

Meanwhile, the military claimed there were reports that the LTTE was trying to blame the security forces for the recent killings in Jaffna. They also said the LTTE had lodged complaints with the SLMM that the military was behind recent attacks..."

Tamil activist shot dead in Jaffna

The principal of Kopay Christian College, Mr. Nadararajah Sivakadadcham, was shot and killed Tuesday night by unidentified gunmen at his residence, civilian sources said. The fifty-nine-years old school principal was a known social activist and the Kopay Division organisor of Tamil Resurgence Task Force. Mr. Sivakadadcham organised the Tamil Women Resurgence Day events that were held in Kopay, Monday. Two gunmen who approached Mr. Sivakadadcham's residence in Kopay North shot at him and fled from the scene in a motorbike, sources said.

Students protest over Principal's killing

Hundreds of students of Kopay Christian College blocked the Jaffna-Point Pedro roads and Kaithady-Urumpirai road at Kopay junction from 12 noon Wednesday and sat in protest condemning the killing of their principal Mr. Nadarajah Sivakadadcham.
Mr. Sivakadadcham, principal, Kopay Chrisitian College, was killed by gunmen, Tuesday night, outside his door. He was one of the chief organisers of the recent Tamil Upsurge event, which drew over 200,000 Tamils to demand for their right to self-determination.

The leaders of the protesting students assured this was neither a "strike action," nor a call for "Shut-Shop."

"We demand urgent investigation into our principal's murder and the perpetrators of the crime identified. Until then we will continue our protest," a students' spokesperson said.

They pointed out that there was a team of Sri Lankan army troopers visiting their school during school hours looking for their principal in his absence before he was gunned down in the evening at his residence.

Children and students sat down at the Kopay junction, "cross-cutting" Jaffna-Point Pedro Road and Kaithady-Urumpiray Road. The traffic has grinded to a halt.

 LTTE confers "Tamil National Patriot" title on Sivakadadcham.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) conferred the title "Tamil national patriot" on Mr. Nadaraja Sivakadadcham, Principal of Kopay Christian College, who was shot dead Tuesday night at his residence in Jaffna by unknown gunmen. This was revealed in a statement issued by the LTTE Jaffna district political secretariat located in LTTE held Pallai division in Jaffna district Wednesday.

Excerpts from the message delivered in Tamil follow:

"We strongly condemn the murder of Mr Nadaraja Sivakadadcham, principal of Kopay Christian College and president of Kopay Region Resurgence Consortium by Intelligence operatives of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and traitors from Eelam People Democratic Party (EPDP).

"Mr Sivakadadcham rendered invaluable service towards education of Tamil youths and for the social welfare of his community in Kopay. Above all, he worked until his death for the liberation of his people.

"We wish to convey our sympathies to his grieving wife, children and relatives who are devastated by his death.

"By murdering Mr Sivakadadcham, enemies are seeking to dampen our peoples thirst for freedom. The historical truth, however, dictates that the incident will further ignite the fire of national liberation in our people."

Funeral for Kopay principal held

Funeral for the slain Principal of Kopay Christian College, Mr Sivakadadcham, was held in Kopay Thursday. Students, public and School principals, teachers paid their last respects during the funeral ceremony at his Kopay residence and when the coffin was taken to Kopay Hindu cemetary in procession for cremation, sources said. Mr Sivakadadcham was gunned down by unknown assailants in front of his house Tuesday night.

Kopay Christian College student band led the procession from the Principal's residence to the School premises where Assistant Principal Ms Kailaimahan presided a memorial ceremony.

Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians MK Eelaventhan, M Sivanesan, and S Gajendran, Jaffna District Education Officer, S Vigneswaran, Tamil Teachers Union Secretary K Panchalingam and several others lit the memorial lamp.

All schools in Jaffna were closed responding to a request from the Jaffna Campus Students Consortium. Students have planned to boycott school until 19 October in protest of the killing.

Students continued to block the Jaffna-Point Pedro road and the Kaithady-Urumpirai road at Kopay junction. Students also shouted slogans against the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP).
