Mayor of Greater Dandenong refuses to apologise for tribute

A tribute by the Greater Dandenong mayor to a community leader
whose opponents say supported a terrorist group has outraged a
sector of the city’s Sri Lankan residents. Mayor Youhorn Chea
last week thrust council into an ongoing fray between Sri
Lanka’s two main ethnic groups – the Tamils and Sinhalese – when
he attended a memorial service of a deceased Tamil community
leader and sent a wreath to the Tamil community on behalf of
council.
The council has since received emails from angry Sinhalese and
smaller ethnic groups opposed to the Tamils, demanding a public
apology for the sign of support. But this week Cr Chea said he
would not apologise because he was unaware of the ethnic
tensions and had attended because the deceased was
well-respected by his community.
The memorial service at Springvale City Hall on Tuesday 3 April
was for Australian Tamil leader Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar, 54,
who died late last month. Cr Chea sent a wreath on behalf of the
city to the Tamil community before the service.
Mr Jeyakumar was renowned for rallying Australian Tamils to
support the homeland conflict against the Sinhalese-controlled
Sri Lankan Government, in a bid for Sri Lanka’s Tamil-populated
north to become its own country. But his heroic status among
Tamils was not shared by other Sri Lankan ethnic groups.
Emails to council claimed his work supported the Tamil Tigers’
cause – a rebel group the Australian Government has proscribed
as a terrorist organisation. Just days after his death, the
Tamil Tigers released a statement praising Mr Jeyakumar’s
support of the Tamil cause and his ability to unite the Tamil
community in Australia.
Keysborough South Ward councillor Peter Brown said Cr Chea had
made an error that had sparked a furore among Sri Lankans in
Greater Dandenong. “The mayor and councillors were contacted by
a number of members from the Sri Lankan community prior to the
service,” Cr Brown said.
“They expressed concern that the Springvale City Hall was going
to be made available for a person who the Tamil separatist
movement recognised as working for them in Australia. I believe
the funeral was something that should have been a private and
non-partisan matter, and given the substantial political
differences between Tamil separatists and other Sri Lankans, it
was unwise for council through the mayor to be seen to be acting
in a partisan way like this.”
But Cr Chea stood by his decision and said Sri Lanka’s civil war
was not a matter Australians should have to worry about when
attending functions. “With any civil war, which side is wrong,
and which side is right?” he said. “I really don’t know, and
when I ask the Sinhalese community, they say the Tamil communty
is aggressive. “But the Tamils say their government has killed a
lot of people and so on. “I really do not care much about their
arguments. I think if a leader of any community passes away and
someone invites me to (a memorial), then I must go.” Cr
Chea blasted those calling for an apology. “I have done nothing
wrong,” he said. “He was Australian, he was a good man who
worked for the community, with schools and so on, and the
community had a lot of respect for him.”

"கடந்த இருபது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாக அவுஸ்திரேலியத் தமிழர்
ஒருங்கிணைப்புக்குழுவின் பொறுப்பாளராகச் செயற்பட்டு, எமது
போராட்டத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும் உயர்ச்சிக்கும் அரும்பாடுபட்டு
அயராது உழைத்த ஒரு அற்புதமான மனிதரை நாம் இன்று இழந்துவிட்டோம்.
இந்த நல்ல மனிதரை இழந்து, எமது தேசம் இன்று சோகக்கடலிலே
மூழ்கிக்கிடக்கிறது.

ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள் ஒரு பண்பான மனிதர். நெஞ்சில் தூய்மையும்
நேர்மையும் கொண்டவர். தன்னலமற்றவர், பொதுநலத்தையே இலட்சியமாகக்
கொண்டு வாழ்ந்தவர். இனிமையான பேச்சும், எளிமையான பண்பும்,
பெருந்தன்மையான போக்குமே அவரது ஆளுமையின் அழகு. அவர் உதிரும்
மந்திரப் புன்னகை அந்த அழகிய ஆளுமையை அணிசெய்தது. இதுவே,
அனைவரையும் அவரை நோக்கிக் காந்தமாகக் கவர்ந்திழுத்தது.
இவர் ஒரு சிறந்த
தேசப்பற்றாளர். அவுஸ்திரேலிய மண்ணில் தளமிட்டு நின்றபோதும், தான்
பிறந்து, வளர்ந்து, வாழ்ந்த மண்ணை அவர் ஆழமாக நேசித்தார். சிங்கள
அதிகார வர்க்கம் தனது இராணுவ அடக்குமுறைப் பாதையைக் கைவிட்டு,
தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு என்றுமே ஒரு நீதியான தீர்வை வழங்கப்போவதில்லை
என்பதை அவர் ஆழமாக உணர்ந்தவர்.
விடுதலையின் பாதையில்
பயணித்து, சுதந்திரத் தமிழீழத் தனியரசை அமைப்பதைத் தவிர
தமிழர்களுக்கு வேறு வழியில்லை என்பதை அனுபவ ரீதியாகப்
பட்டறிந்தவர். இந்தச் சிந்தனைத் தெளிவும் பட்டறிவும் அவரிடம்
விடுதலைத் தீயைப் பற்ற வைத்தது. அவரும் எமது விடுதலை இயக்கத்தோடு
ஒன்று சேர்ந்து, போராட்ட வாழ்வில் முழுமையாக மூழ்கினார்.
கடல்கள் தாண்டி,
கண்டனங்கள் கடந்து, தனது தாயகத்திற்கு வெளியே, தூர தேசத்திலே
ஒருவர் எத்தனை பெரும் பணியை தனது தேச விடுதலைக்கு ஆற்ற முடியுமோ
அதனைத்தான் இவர் அவுஸ்திரேலிய மண்ணில் புரிந்தார். அவுஸ்திரேலிய
நாட்டின் அரசியல் போக்கையும் சட்ட நடைமுறைகளையும் சரியாகப்
புரிந்துகொண்டு, தமிழீழ தேச விடுதலைக்கான போராட்டப் பணிகளைச்
சாதுரியமாகவும் சாமர்த்தியமாகவும் முன்னெடுத்தார்.
அங்கு வாழும்
எம்மக்கள் மத்தியில் தமிழ்ப்பற்றையும் இனப்பற்றையும்
ஊட்டிவளர்த்து, போராட்ட விழிப்புணர்வைத் தூண்டி, எமது
போராட்டத்திற்கு ஆதரவாக அவர்களை அணிதிரட்டினார். அவுஸ்திரேலிய
மண்ணில் தமிழ்க்குரல் வானொலி தோற்றம் பெறுவதற்கும் தமிழர்
ஒருங்கிணைப்புக்குழு பல்வேறு நாடுகளில் தனது கிளைகளைப்
பரப்புவதற்கும் துணை நின்றவர். இவர் ஆரவாரமின்றி, அமைதியாக ஆற்றிய
விடுதலைப்பணி என்றும் போற்றுதற்குரியவை.

ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களின் இனப்பற்றிற்கும் விடுதலைப் பற்றிற்கும்
மதிப்பளித்து, அவரது விடுதலைப் பணியைக் கௌரவிக்கும் முகமாக
மாமனிதர் என்ற அதியுயர் தேசிய விருதை அவருக்கு வழங்குவதில் நான்
பெருமையடைகிறேன். தேச விடுதலை எனும் உன்னத இலட்சியத்திற்காக
உறுதியோடு உழைத்த உயர்ந்த மனிதர்களைச் சாவு என்றும் அழித்து
விடுவதில்லை. எமது நெஞ்சத்து நினைவலைகளில் அவர்கள் என்றும் நீங்காத
நினைவுகளாக நிலைத்து நிற்பார்கள். "
English Translation
"We have lost today a great human being who worked
relentlessly to support our struggle and leading the
Australian Tamils Co-ordinating Committee for the last
twenty years. The whole of Tamil Nation is mourning his
death.
Jeyakumar is a cultured human being. Honest and unselfish,
he dedicated his life to serve his people. He is softspoken
and had exemplary qualities. His innocent smile captivated
all who came to know him.
Jeyakumar is a patriot. Although he was based in Australia,
he continued to deeply love the land of his birth. He
strongly felt that the oppressive Sinhala leadership will
never willingly offer a just solution to the Tamil people.
His experiences convinced him that a separate state is the
only way open to the Tamil people to live in peace with
honor. His deep knowledge of our struggle, and clear vision
for the future lit the flame of liberation in his
consciousness.
Across the oceans, beyond several continents, away from his
homeland, Jeyakumar contributed the maximum possible by an
expatriate Tamil towards the liberation of his homeland. He
understood the political climate and the need to obey the
law of the land of his adopted country and functioned
diligently within this framework. He united the Australian
Tamils to provide moral support and help to the people in
his homeland. He set up institutional structures that will
continue to strengthen diaspora engagement with the destiny
of Tamil people in Northeast.
Recognizing Jeyakumar's love for his land and his people,
and his services to his community, I take great pleasure in
awarding Maamanithar title to him. Death never destroys
great men who lived to uphold truthful goals. They will
forever live in the psyche of the Tamil Nation."

The sudden demise of
Mr. Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar, a senior Australian
Tamil leader, is a painful shock to Tamil people.
This is an unbearable
loss to his beloved wife and son - a painful loss to his
fellow Australasian Tamil community, and a great loss to
the International Tamil community.
Jeyakumar Annai, as he
was popularly known, has a two decade-long history,
unreservedly dedicated to the Tamil liberation struggle.
His boundless energy, enthusiasm and dynamism helped him
reach the Tamil community the world over. His
relentless endeavour to harness dedication and support
for the Tamil liberation struggle in all continents,
especially in
Australasia
and
Africa, the national awakening he inspired among the
Tamil people in all lands and the valiant leadership he
offered were exemplary, demanding emulation.
With sincerity and
persuasive leadership, he was successful in mobilizing
the Australasian and African Tamils to raise their
voice in exposing the Sinhala oppression in the
traditional homeland of the Tamils in the island of Sri
Lanka.
Jeyakumar Annai was
soft-spoken; yet firm and convincing. These endeared him
to his people. He was respected and loved. Those who
know him, remember him as a worthy gentleman. An
academic and an intellectual, yet, he chose to be a
grass-root worker. The Tamil nation is the beneficiary
of his sacrifice. He was the embodiment of Tamil will
and Tamil unity in Australasia.
With the recent
deterioration in world attitude towards fair play and
justice, Jeyakumar Annai also had to face trials and
tribulations of greater magnitude. He withstood the
onslaught and served the Tamil cause, valiantly. He has
earned his place in the history of the Tamil people.

பிரபாகரன் அவர்கள்
அடி தாங்கும் உள்ளம் இது இடிதாங்குமா? என்று ஒரு
பாடலின் வரிகள் கூறும். அடிகளை மட்டுமல்ல, இடிகளையும் தாங்கி
நிமிர்ந்து நின்றவர்தான் எங்கள் மாமனிதர் தில்லை ஜெயக்குமார்
அவர்கள்.
தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு எதிராக
அவுஸ்திரேலியாவில் பேரினவாதச் சார்புச் சக்திகள் கொடுத்த அனைத்து
அழுத்தங்களையும் ஓர் இடிதாங்கி போல் மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் தாங்கி
நின்று, தனது தேச விடுதலைக்கான பணியை மிகச் சிறப்பாக
முன்னெடுத்தார்.
இன்று அந்த இடிதாங்கியின் எதிர்பாராத சாவு,
அவுஸ்திரேலியத் தமிழ்மக்களுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, மற்றைய உலக நாடுகளில்
வாழுகின்ற புலம்பெயர்ந்த தமிழ் மக்களுக்கும் ஒரு பேரிடியாகவே
அமைந்து விட்டது. அந்த அளவிற்கு தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கான
அளப்பரிய பணியைத் தன்னுடைய அயராத உழைப்பினால் பண்பமைந்த
முறைகளினால் மேற்கொண்டு வந்தவர் அமரர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள்.
கடந்த இருபது ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாகத் தன் தேச
மக்களின் விடுதலைக்காக அவர் அயராது ஆற்ற்pய பெரும் பணியைப்
பாராட்டி அவரின் இனப்பற்றிற்கும், விடுதலைப் பற்றிற்கும்
மதிப்பத்து தமிழீழத் தேசியத்தலைவர் அவர்கள் மாமனிதர் என்ற அதியுயர்
தேசிய விருதை அமரர் தில்லை ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கி
கௌரவித்துள்ளார்.
தில்லை நடராஜா - லீலாவதி தம்பத்pயினருக்குப் புதல்வனாக 19-12-1951
அன்று, யாழ் வண்ணார் பண்ணiயில் பிறந்த திரு ஜெயக்குமார், தனது
ஆரம்பக் கல்வியை யாழ் வைத்தீஸ்வராக் கல்லூரியிலும்,
கணணித்துறைக்கான முதுமானிப் பட்டப்படிப்பை லண்டனிலும் முடித்து
விட்டு, 1982ம் ஆண்டு அவுஸ்திரேலியாவிற்கு குடிபெயர்ந்தார்.
1983ம் ஆண்டின் தமிழினப் படுகொலைகளுக்கு முன்னரேயே,
அதாவது 1982ம் ஆண்டிலேயே அவுஸ்திரேலியாவிற்கு ஜெயக்குமார்
குடிபெயர்ந்தபோது, அவரை நோக்கிச் சுகமான, ஆடம்பர, உல்லாச வாழ்க்கை
காத்திருந்தது. ஆனால் அவற்றையெல்லாம் உதறித் தள்ளிய அவர் தமிழீழத்
தேச விடுதலைக்கான உயரிய பணிகளிலேயே தன்னை முழுமையாக
அர்ப்பணித்தார். மெல்பேர்ண் ஊர்ஐளுர்ழுடுஆ ஐNளுவுஐவுருவுநு ல்
விரிவுரையாளராகக் கடமையாற்றிய ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களின் நினைவிலும்,
கனவிலும், எமது தேச விடுதலையே கனன்று கொண்டிருந்தது. தமிழீழ
விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வாழ்வில் அவர் முழுமையாகவே மூழ்கியமையானது, மிக
இயல்பாகவே அமைந்தது.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் பன்முக ஆளுமையுள்ள, நேர்மையான நல்ல மனிதராக
விளங்கினார். மிகத் தீர்க்கமான அரசியல் அறிவும், சிந்தனைத்
தெளிவும் அவருக்கு இருந்தன. இவற்றை சரியான முறையில்
நெறிப்படுத்திச் செயல் உருவம் கொடுக்கக் கூடிய மகத்தான நிர்வாகத்
திறமை அவருக்கு கை வந்த கலையாகும். அவருடைய மனித நேயமோ
வரம்பற்றதாகும். எந்த வேளையிலும், சிரித்தமுகத்துடன் அன்போடு
அரவணைத்து இன்சொல் பேசி பண்பமைந்த வகையில் பழகுவது மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமாரின் இதயத்திலும், இரத்தத்திலும் ஊறிப்போன விடயங்களாகும்.
தேச விடுதலைக்கான பணிகளை மட்டுமல்லாது,
தனிப்பட்டோரின் சுக துக்கங்களிலும் பங்கு கொணடு அவர்களது
பிரச்சனைகளைத் தீர்த்து வைக்கும் பணிகளையும் அவர் மேற்கொண்டார்.
பொறுப்பாளர்களுக்கெல்லாம் பொறுப்பாளராக அவர் விளங்கிய போதும், அவர்
சகல பொறுப்பாளர்களையும் தன் தோளிலே தாங்குபவராக இருந்தார்.
இப்படியான பன்முக ஆளுமை மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமாருக்கு இருந்தபோதும்
அவர் ஒரு தொண்டனாகவே விளங்கினார். தனது அன்பென்ற அறுக்க முடியாத
நூலினூடே அனைவரையும் ஒருங்கிணைத்த பெருமகன் ஆவார்.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களின் பன்முக ஆளமையைப் பற்றி முழுமையாகச
சொல்வதற்குரிய திறன் எனக்கில்லை. எனினும் அவருடைய பரிமாணத்தின் ஒரு
கூறையாவது சொல்வதற்கு எத்தனிக்கிறேன்.
1982ம் ஆண்டு அவுஸ்திரேலியாவிற்கு குடிபெயர்ந்த உடனேயே விக்ரோரியா
இலங்கைத் தமிழ்ச்சங்கத்துடன் ஜெயக்குமார் இணைந்து கொண்டார்.
இலங்கைத் தமிழ்ச் சங்கத்தின் செயலாளராகவும், செயற்குழு
அங்கத்தவராகவும் ஜெயக்குமார் பல்லாண்டுகள் தொடர்ந்து
பணியாற்றினார்.
தற்போது விக்ரோரியா ஈழத்தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் என்று
அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற அன்றைய இலங்கைத் தமிழ்ச்சங்கம், தமிழ்ச்
சங்கங்களுக்கெல்லாம் தாய்ச் சங்கமாக அமைந்தது. அதனூடே அரசியல் சமூக
ரீதியாக பல செயற்பாடுகள் திடமாக வேரூன்றின. இக்கால கட்டத்தில்
மாமனிதர் பேராசிரியர் எலியேசர் அவர்களின் அன்புக்கும்,
நம்பிக்கைக்கும் ஜெயக்குமார் உரித்தானார்.
மாமனிதர் பேராசிரியர் எலியேசர் அவர்களின் நட்பும்,
வழிநடத்தலும் தனக்குக் கிட்டியது தனக்கு ஒரு பேறு என்று மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் அடிக்கடி குறிப்பிடுவதுண்டு. மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமாருக்கு
கிட்டிய அந்தப் பேறினால் எமது தாய்த் திருநாடு பலனடைந்தது.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள் தன்னுடைய தீர்க்க தரிசனமான
சிந்தனையின் காரணமாகப் பல அமைப்புக்களை உருவாக்கினார்.
அவுஸ்திரேலியத் தமிழ் அமைப்புக்களின் கூட்டமைப்பு 3ஊசு
தமிழ்க்குரல், தமிழீழ மகளிர் அமைப்பு, சோலை சிறுவர் பராமரிப்புச்
சங்கம், தமிழ் இளையோர் சங்கம் போன்ற எத்தனையோ அமைப்புக்கள்
உருவாகுவதற்கும் அவற்றின் ஆக்கபூர்வமான தேசவிடுதலைச்
செயற்பாடுகளுக்கும் மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் காரணகர்த்தாவாக
இருந்தார்.
1985ம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின்
அவுஸ்திரேலியக் கிளையின் பொறுப்பாளராக மிகுந்த கடமையுணர்வுடனும்,
தேசப்பற்றுடனும் கடமையாற்றிய இவர் தன்னுடைய பணிகளை மற்றைய
நாடுகளுக்கும் விரிவுபடுத்திச் செயற்பட்டார். நியூசிலாந்து,
மலேசியா, தென்னாபிரிக்கா போன்ற நாடுகளில் தமிழர் ஒருங்கிணைப்புக்
குழுவின் கிளைகளும், அவற்ற்pன் பணிகளும் உருவாகுவதற்கு மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் காரணமாக இருந்தார்.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமாரின் பன்முக ஆளுமைகளில் ஒன்றாக அவரது பரந்த
சிந்தனைப் பார்வையைக் கூறலாம். இந்த அவுஸ்திரேலியக் கண்டத்தில்
எமது தேச விடுதலைக்கான பணியை ஒருங்கிணைத்து முன்னெடுத்துச்
செல்வதற்கு ஜெயக்குமாரின் இந்த ஆளுமை கைகொடுத்தது. இதன் ஒரு
முக்கிய கூறாக அவுஸ்திரேலிய அரசியல் வாதிகளுடனான அவரது
அணுகுமுறையையும் எமது போராட்டத்தின் நியாயத்தை அவர்களுக்கு புரிய
வைப்பதற்காக அவர் தொடர்ந்து மேற்கொண்ட செயற்பாடுகளையும் நாம்
குறிப்படலாம்.
ஊடகங்களின் வலு குறித்து மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் சரியாகவே புரிந்து
வைத்திருந்தார். இந்த வேளையில் தமிழழீத் தேசியத் தலைவரின் சிந்தனை
ஒன்றைக் குறிப்பிடுவது பொருத்தமானதாக இருக்கும்.
பொய்களையே ஆயுதமாகக் கொண்டு நடாத்தப்படுகின்ற சிங்களத்தின்
விசமத்தானமான கருத்துப்போரை முறியடிப்பதே இன்று நாம் எதிர்
கொண்டிருக்கும் முக்கியமான சவாலாகும். எமது இயக்கத்தின் வெகுசன
ஊடகங்களே இந்த பெரும் பணியைச் செய்ய வேண்டும்.’
என்று தமிழழீத் தேசியத் தலைவர் அவர்கள் பல்லாண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு
தெரிவித்திருந்தார். களத்தில் நிற்கின்ற தலைவன் முக்கிய சவால்
என்று கருதுவது சிங்களத்தின் விசமத்தனமான பொய்யான கருத்துப்
போரைத்தான். அதனால் தான் இதனை முறியடிப்பதைப் பெரும் பணி என்று
தேசியத் தலைவர் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார்.
சிறிலங்கா அரசுகளின் பேரினவாத பொய்ப் பரப்புரைகளை முறியடித்து
தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு ஆதரவாக குரல் கொடுத்துப் பணி
புரிய வேண்டியதன் முக்கியத்துவத்தைச் சுமார் 23 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு
முன்னரேயே உணர்ந்து அதற்காகத் தமிழ் வானொலி ஒன்றை
அவுஸ்திரேலியாவில் உருவாக்க வேண்டும் என்று உழைத்த முன்னோடிகளில்
மாமனிதர் தில்லை ஜெயக்குமார் முக்கியமானவர் ஆவார். அப்போது
மெல்பேர்ண் நகரில் சிறியதொரு ‘கராஜ‘ ஒன்றில் இயங்கி வந்த 3C
ஒலிபரப்பு நிலையத்தில் இரவு ஒன்பது மணிக்குப் ப்pன்னர் மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களும், அவர்களது நண்பர்களும் சென்று அங்கே தொழில்
நுட்பப் பயிற்சியை பெற்று இலங்கைத் தமிழ்ச் சங்கத்தின் ஆதர வில்
தமிழ்க்குரலின் முதலாவது ஒலிபரப்பை 03.04.84 ல் ஆரம்பித்தார்கள்.
இன்று தமிழ்க்குரல் எத்தனையோ வகையான எதிர்ப்புக்களையும்,
பயமுறுத்தல்களையும், முட்டுக் கட்டைகளையும் எதிர்கொண்டு அவற்றைக்
கடந்து மிகப்பாரிய வளர்ச்சியை அடைந்துள்ளது. தமிழ்க்குரலின்
ஒலிபரப்பைத் தடுக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகச் சிங்களப் பேரினவாதம்
தொடர்ந்தும் கொடுக்கும் அழுத்தங்களையும் எச்சரிக்கைளையும்
இன்னல்களையும் கொலைப் பயமுறுத்தல்களையும் இன்று வரை தமிழ்க்குரல்
நேர் கொண்டே வருகின்றது.
உலகத்தமிழ் வானொலிகளுக்கு முன்னோடியாகக் கடந்த 14
ஆண்டுகளாகத் தமிழர் புனர் வாழ்வுக் கழகத்திற்கும் கடந்த நான்கு
ஆண்டுகளாக அவுஸ்திரேலிய மருத்துவ நிதியத்ததுக்கும் தனது ரேடியோ
தோன் நிதிசேகரிப்பு நிகழ்வுகளின் மூலம் மாபெரும் நிதி சேகரிப்பு
நிகழ்ச்சிகளை தமிழ்க்குரல் நடாத்தி வருகின்றது.
தமிழீழத் தேசியத் தவைரின் சிந்தனைகளின் வழி நடத்தலில் தமிழீழ
விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வெற்றிக்கான பரப்புரைகளைத் தமிழ்க் குரல்
சிறப்பாக மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றது. இவை யாவற்றிற்கும் அடித்தளமாக
மாமனிதர் ஜெயகுமார் விளங்கினார். 3C வானொலி ஊடாக ஆங்கிலத்திலும்
எமது பரப்புரையை ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டுமென்று நான் கூறிய ஆலோசனைக்கு
முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்து 1997ம் ஆண்டு ஆயுNஐகுநுளுவு (நிதர்சனம்)
நிகழ்ச்சி ஆரம்பமாவதற்கு மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் துணை நின்று, தோள்
கொடுத்து உதவினார்.
தமிழீழத் தேசியத்தலைவர் மேதகு வே.பிரபாகரன் அவர்கள் தமிழ்க்குரல்
வானொலியின் தோற்றம் குறித்துக் குறிப்பிட்டு மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமாரைப் பாராட்டியுள்ளமையானது ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களின் பன்முக
ஆளுமையின் சிறப்பைப் புலப்படுத்தி நிற்கின்றது. அன்று மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள் வித்திட்டதால் இன்று 3ஊசு தமிழ்க்குரல்
விருட்சமாகியுள்ளது.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள் தமிழீழத் தேசியத் தலைவரைத் தன்
நெஞ்சிலே நிறுத்தித் தன் தேசவிடுதலைப் பணியை மிகுந்த உத்வேகத்துடன்
மேற்கொண்ட பெருமகனாவார். தனது பன்முக ஆளுமையை அவர் தமிழீழ
விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும், உயர்ச்சிக்குமே உபயோகப்
படுத்தினார். சிந்தனை- செயல்திறன்- பணிவு- பண்பாடு- நேர்மை-தூய்மை-
பெருந்தன்மை- அன்பு- அமைதி என்று மானுடத்தின் அதி உன்னதக் குணச்
சிறப்பியல்புகளைக் கொண்டிருந்த பன்முக ஆளுமையாளர் மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்கள்!
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களுக்கு எப்போதும் அருந்துணையாகவும்
பக்கபலமாகவும் நின்ற அவருடைய பேரன்புத் துணைவியார் யோகராணிக்கும்,
அருமை மகன் கார்த்திக்குக்கும் எமது ஆழ் நெஞ்சத்து அனுதாபங்கள்.
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களின் ஒப்புயர்வற்ற தேசப்பணியைத்
தொடர்ந்து நாமனைவரும் உத்வேகத்துடன் முன்னெடுத்துச் செல்வதே நாம்
அன்னாருக்குச் செய்யக்கூடிய உரிய மரியாதையாகும். எமது தேச
விடுதலையையே முழுமூச்சாகக் கொண்டிருந்த எமது பேரன்பிற்குரிய
மாமனிதர் ஜெயக்குமார் அவர்களுக்கு எமது வீர வணக்கம்.!

நேரடியாகப் பங்கு கொள்ள முடியாததையிட்டு மிகவும் மனவருத்தத்துடன்
எனது ஆதங்கத்தையும் ஆழ்ந்த கவலையையும் உங்களுடன் இந்நினைவு
மலர்மூலம் பகிர முயல்கிறேன்.

தசாப்தங்களுக்கு மேலாக தமிழீழப் போராட்டத்தில் புலம்பெயர்மக்களின்
பங்கை பிரதிபலிக்கும் ஒருவராக மாத்திரம் நான் எமது நண்பர் மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமாரைப் பார்க்கவில்லை.
அவரின் பங்கு அதற்கு
அப்பாற்பட்டது. அவரின் செயல் ஆங்கிலத்தில் கூறப்போனால்,
"was far beyond the call of duty".
பல விதங்களில், பல
முறைகளில் தனது சொந்த சுகங்களை மறுத்து தமிழீழ மண்ணிற்கு,
ஈழத்தமிழரின் சுதந்திர வேட்கைக்கு, எமது போராட்டத்திற்கு, அவர்
செய்த தொண்டுபற்றி நான் கூறி உங்களுக்குத் தெரியவேண்டியதல்ல.
பல்வேறுபட்ட குணாதிசயங்களைக் கொண்டவர்களை, வேறுபட்ட
சிந்தனையுள்ளவர்களை, வித்தியாசமான நோக்கங்களை, விளக்கங்களை
நடைமுறைகளைக் கையாள்பவர்களை தமிழீழ விடுதலைக்காக ஒன்றுபட்டு உழைக்க
வைத்த திறமை அவரிடம் இருந்த ஒரு சிறப்பான அம்சம்.
தன்னை ஒறுத்து, தனது
வாழ்க்கையை தமிழீழ விடுதலைக்காக அர்ப்பணித்த எமது நண்பர் மாமனிதர்
ஜெயக்குமார் தமிழீழ மக்களின் நெஞ்சில் எப்பொழுதும் நிலைத்து
நிற்பார்.

" நெருநல் உளன் ஒருவன் இன்றில்லை என்னும்
பெருமையுடைத்து இவ்வுலகு "
நேற்றுவரை எம்மிடையே வாழ்ந்த ஜெயக்குமார் இன்று இல்லை. இவரது
அகாலமரணம் ஈடு செய்யமுடியாத ஒரு இழப்பு. தமிழீழத் தாகத்தை,
தாயகவிடுதலையை, தன் மூச்சாகச் சுமந்து இரவென்றும் பகலென்றும்
வேறுபடுத்தாது பணியாற்றிய ஜெயக்குமார் இன்று எம்முடன் இல்லை.
தமிழீழத் தேசியத்தலைவரினதும், அமைப்பினதும் கட்டளைகளை ஏற்று
செயல்பட்ட இந்த மாமனிதன் தன்செயல்கள் மூலம் தேசியத்தலைவரின்
நம்பிக்கைக்கும் அன்பிற்கும் உரியவராக உயர்ந்து நின்றார்.
அவுஸ்திரேலியாவில் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு வலுச்சேற்கும்
அமைப்புக்களை உருவாக்குவதில் முன்னின்று உழைத்த இவர் அந்த
அமைப்புக்களின் மூலம் அரசியல் விடுதலைக்கான விழிப்புணர்ச்சிகளை
ஏற்படுத்த ஏதுவானார்.
ஏளிமையான வாழ்வு, பண்பான உள்ளம், கனிவான கண்கள், இவை இவனது
அணிகலன்கள். முரண்பாடுகளையும் ,பிரச்சனைகளையும் எதிர்
கொண்டபோதெல்லாம் இவன் கையாண்ட அணுகுமுறைகள் போராட்டத்திற்கு
வலுச்சேர்ப்பனவாய் அமைந்தன.
பாரதியன் சேவகன் போல் " நண்பனாய், மந்திரியாய், நல்லாசிரியனாய்,
பண்பிலே தெய்வமாய் பார்வையிலே சேவகனாய் ,எங்கிருந்தோ வந்து "
எம்மிடையே வாழ்ந்து உறவாடி வழிகாட்டிய நல்லமனிதன் இவன். இவனது
பிரிவால் தவிக்கும் துணைவி யோகாவினதும், மகன் கார்த்திக்கினதும்
இவரது சகபாடிகள், நண்பர்களினதும் துயரிலும் வருத்தத்திலும் பங்கு
கொள்கின்றேன்.
எந்த இலட்சியத்திற்காகத் தன் வாழ்வை ஜெயக்குமார் அர்ப்பணித்தாரோ ,
அந்த உன்னத இலட்சியத்திற்குப் பின்னால் நாம் எல்லோரும் அணிதிரள்வதே
அவருக்கு நாம் செலுத்தக்கூடிய அஞ்சலியும் வழியனுப்பலுமாகும்.
காலவெளகளத்தில் கரைந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் எமது வாழ்க்கைப் பயணத்தில்
அவ்வப்போது நல்ல மனிதர்களால் உன்னதமான இலட்சியங்களால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்
படுகின்றோம். உன்னதமான இலட்சியத்தின் வெற்றிக்காக உழைத்த ஒரு நல்ல
மனிதனே ஜெயக்குமார்.
என் இனிய நண்பனே , அன்பானவனே உன் நினைவுகள் என் மனதில் திரையெறிந்த
வண்ணம் இருக்க விடைபெறுகின்றேன்.

Remembering Mamanithar Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar

Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar
passed away in Melbourne, Australia on 29
March 2007. He was 54 years of age.
Jeyakumar was a good and
honest human. And when we remember and honour Jeyakumar,
we also strengthen that which is good and honourable
amongst us as a people. Goodness is about helping others
and honesty is about matching your word with your deed.
Jeyakumar helped many, identified himself with the
people to whom he belonged and served them well by
always seeking a match between that which he said and
that which he did.
I myself had known him for
more than twenty years – and during that period I came
to learn something about his steadfast commitment to the
struggle for freedom of his people, his soft spoken
manner, his iron resolution, his willingness to learn
and his tireless endeavour to channel our efforts in a
meaningful and productive way.
In the early days, it was
educative to watch Jeyakumar’s relationship with
Mamanithar Jeyaratnam Eliezer and his wife Ranee
Eliezer. He was treated by them with affection and
regarded by them, in many ways, as a member of their
family. Jeyakumar once told me that he had gained
much from that relationship and interaction. Perhaps,
Mamanithar Eliezer also gained much from his interaction
with a much younger Tamil with roots in the
struggle on the ground.
I remember a conversation
that I had with
Sathasivam Krishnakumar (Kittu) in London in the
early 1990s. He said –
“You know, at the
start of our struggle, there were, perhaps, 8 or 10
of us. Today there are thousands. But of the
original number, only 3 or 4 of us are alive today.
I do not know for how long more, I myself will live.
But we are building a road. When we die, others will
come to take our place – and they will continue with
the task of building the road to freedom.”
A struggle for freedom is
no evening tea party. But, a struggle for freedom also
produces its heroes and heroines – men and women who
have displayed strength, ability and courage far beyond
the call of duty. Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar will always
remain in our memories as one of the heroes of the
struggle of his people for freedom. I respectfully
salute Jeyakumar's
sustained contribution to the cause of his people during
these many years - sustained through many trials and
tribulations.
At the same
time, I would like to convey to his wife and family my
deep felt condolences at a sudden and tragic loss – a
wife and family who have always made me feel welcome in
their home. It will be presumptuous (and an intrusion)
on my part to even begin to comfort them at this time
and attempt to assuage their feelings at the loss of a
much loved husband and a caring father - feelings about
which, those of us who have ourselves undergone similar
losses may be able to have some understanding. May I
only say that I together with thousands of Tamils living
in many lands (including Australia, New Zealand,
Malaysia, South Africa, Europe and Tamil Eelam) share in
their pain, in their loss and in their grief. May God

தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கான தமது தார்மீகக் கடமையை
மிகுந்த உத்வேகத்துடன் முன்னெடுத்து வந்தவர்

தமிழீழ விடுதலைப்
புலிகளின் அவுஸ்திரேலிய கிளைப் பொறுப்பாளர் தில்லைநடராஜா
ஜெயக்குமார் இன்று வியாழக்கிழமை காலை தனது 54 ஆவது வயதில்
காலமானார்.
தாயகத்தில் யாழ்.
வண்ணார்பண்ணையைப் பிறப்பிடமாகக் கொண்டவரான இவர், யோகராணியின்
கணவரும், கார்த்திக்கின் தந்தையும் ஆவார்.
20 வருடங்களுக்கு
மேலாக அவுஸ்திரேலிய கிளையின் பொறுப்பாளராகவும், அவுஸ்திரேலியாவில்
உள்ள பல தமிழ் அமைப்புக்களின் உருவாக்கத்திற்கும், ஈழத்தில் எமது
விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கு அவுஸ்திரேலிய தமிழ் மக்களை
ஒருங்கிணைத்து பணியாற்றி வந்தார்.
1982 ஆம் ஆண்டு அவுஸ்திரேலியாவிற்கு புலம்பெயர்ந்த இவர், இலங்கைத்
தமிழ்ச் சங்கத்தின் செயலாளராகவும், செயற்குழு அங்கத்தவராகவும்
பல்லாண்டுகள் கடமையாற்றினார்.

இன்று
பாரிய வளர்ச்சி பெற்றிருக்கும் 3CR 'தமிழ்க்குரல்' வானொலியை 1984
ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பிப்பதில் முன்னின்று உழைத்தார்.
1985 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இருந்து இயக்கத்தின் பொறுப்பாளராகக் கடமையாற்றிய
இவர், அவுஸ்திரேலியத் தமிழ் அமைப்புக்களின் கூட்டமைப்பு,
தமிழீழ மகளிர் அமைப்பு, சோலைச்சிறுவர் பராமரிப்புச் சங்கம், போன்ற
பல தமிழ் அமைப்புக்களை உருவாக்கி அவுஸ்திரேலிய புலம்பெயர்ந்த
தமிழீழ மக்களைத் தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தின் பால்
ஒருங்கிணைப்பதில் வெற்றி கண்டார்.
நியூசிலாந்து, மலேசியா, தென்னாபிரிக்கா போன்ற நாடுகளில் தமிழர்
ஒருங்கிணைப்புக் குழுவின் கிளைகள் உருவாகுவதற்கு பெரும் உறுதுணையாக
இருந்தார். தில்லைநடராஜா ஜெயக்குமாரின் சிந்தனையும், செயற்பாடும்
தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்காகவும்,
வெற்றிக்காகவும் முழுமையாகப் பாடுபடுவதிலேயே ஈடுபட்டிருந்தன.
ஆரம்பக் கல்வியை யாழ். வைத்தீஸ்வரா கல்லூரியிலும்,
கணிணித்துறையிலான முதுமானிப் பட்டப்படிப்பை லண்டனிலும் முடித்தார்.
தொடர்ந்து அவுஸ்ரேலியா மெல்பேர்ணில் Chisholm Institute இல்
பேராசிரியராக கடமையாற்றிய இவர், எப்போதும் சிரித்த முகத்துடனும்,
மனித நேயத்துடனும், அன்புடனும், அடக்கத்துடனும் மற்றவர்களுடன் பழகி
வந்தார்.
தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டத்திற்கான தமது தார்மீகக் கடமையை மிகுந்த
உத்வேகத்துடன் முன்னெடுத்து வந்த இவர், தமிழீழ தேசியத் தலைவரினை
நெஞ்சினிலே நிறுத்தித் தன் பொதுவாழ்வை மேற்கொண்டவர் ஆவார்.

I was one of his close confidantes during his efforts to free our
Tamil people in Eelam. We were united by the common cause.
Today, he has left us and his sudden death came to us as a surprise.
This is the most gruelling situation for us. It's hard – he has
virtually given over 25 years of his time and effort for the Tamil
people in Eelam. These were the best years of his life. He was a
spectacular team builder. He was an achiever. I don't think that
there are words that I can use to give him the credits that are due
to him.
Jeyakumar has done some phenomenal things for the Tamil people. In
fact, I would think if you listed all the things that he has
achieved over his period as leader, I would say that this is the
best performing Australian Tamil expatriate team relative to the
contributions made by any other team in the world. He had the
charisma to put the team to work as a united team.
I had several disagreements with him. It was not an easy time for me
to live with that situation Yes, we had issues, but I don't believe
that was his fault. We, Tamils are far too prone to divisions and
disagreements. When you have a completely open forum where everyone
wants to reiterate his/her view, it is sometimes very difficult.
But, Jeyakumar had the talent to manage the issues - and the people.
There have been many times when he was instrumental in acting
as a go-between between the deviating views and people, when
tensions spilled over on operational matters. Who will play that
crucial role now?
He was a very popular, dedicated and agile person. He was very
likeable. He was always approachable and no one likes to lose a good
friend, a leader and an achiever. He has been a spectacular person,
in terms of where he stood up against odd people, odd issues and odd
challenges. Where he had to go out and fight against pretty fearsome
odds he came through successfully. And that's largely due to his
leadership because you don't do anything in the Tamil matters unless
people like you as a leader. He has been a beacon for raising
the Tamil voice in Australia– I think that'll be missed in
Australia.
Yes, there is a lot of sadness in Australia and around the world.
But God has made that decision and we all wish his soul rest
in peace. In the name of Jeyakumar, let us demonstrate that we are a
united team that can work effectively to continue his legacy for the
Tamil people in Sri Lanka. I am sure he will be in peace when our
people in Sri Lanka get the freedom of their choice.
His family will miss him a lot. He would have loved to be in the
company of his children, and they are growing up now. Our deepest
sympathy for his wife and the children. Certainly, I will miss him…
Our people will miss him, …God bless you Jeyakumar.

A foot soldier who sacrificed his whole life for the people of
Thamil Eelam - Professor R.T. Rajeswaran, Chairman, TECH
Australia A prolonged darkness has set in our lives with the
untimely passing away of our good friend and stalwart, Mr.
Thillainadarajah Jeyakumar. The ever smiling face, total
composure even in adversity and the tireless work ethics have
gone for ever. This loss is unimaginable to the people of Thamil
Eelam and this can never be replaced. The saying ‘no one is
irreplaceable’ seemed a sensible view until now but not anymore.
There are some things in life once lost can never be replaced
and the passing of Jeyakumar is such a loss to our community at
large.
There is so much to say about a man who was a foot soldier who
sacrificed his whole life for the people of Thamil Eelam without
expecting anything in return. It seems sad to reflect that any
of us have ever thanked him enough, for the sacrifices he made
for the benefit of all of us, when he was alive. The only way we
can show gratitude to the work he has done and to his wife and
son is for us to continue his crusade. It will take all of us in
Australia a miracle to even partially carryout the never ending
battles Jeyakumar has tirelessly fought for our people.
He was a gem, very kind and always calm even when dealing with
his adversaries, a quality seldom possessed by others. My visits
to Melbourne will never be the same again. I still have not got
to grips with the fact that there won’t be a Jeyakumar to help
us confront the despairing times that inevitably lie in front of
us. I cannot call him anymore, like many others, to be reassured
when I have doubts about the future of Thamil Eelam.
After loosing Dr. Balasingam, I never thought we would loose
another who is so vital to us so soon. We are truly grateful to
his wife and son for being so understanding in allowing him to
be used by all of us so selfishly to achieve our only dream.
Only way we can thank them and share in their sad loss is to
continue his work without blemish.
I have never known anyone who gave so much to so many people and
expected so little. It will never be the same without Jeyakumar
and we will never have the richness in our lives we had become
accustomed to in his effervescent presence. We will always
remember and cherish this great man and may his soul rest in
peace with the great souls we have lost in our tumultuous
history.

ஆதரவு திரட்டிய ஜெயக்குமாரின் திடீர் மறைவு அனைவரையும் அளவிலா
துயரத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியுள்ளது. தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் போராட்டம்
வெற்றிப் பாதையில் விரைந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் இந்த
காலக்கட்டத்தில் அவரின் மறைவு பேரிழப்பாகும். தென் கிழக்கு
ஆசிய நாடுகளில் வாழும் தமிழர்களை விடுதலைப் புலிகளின்
போராட்டததிற்கு ஆதரவாகத் திரட்டியவர் மறைந்திருக்கிறார்.
காலமெல்லாம் கடமையாற்றிய அவருக்கு உலகத் தமிழர் பேரமைப்பின்
சார்பில் வீர வணக்கத்தை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.
