Tamils - a Trans State Nation..

"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."

TRO honours the memory of the 51 schools girls and 3 staff members who were killed on the 14th of August 2006 during an aerial bombardment by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). The school girls were attending a Leadership, Self-Awareness and First Aid workshop in Vallipuram, Mullaitivu funded and supported by the Centre for Women's Rehabilitation and Development (CWRD). 129 others were also injured during the bombing.

Over the last year Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) has taken on the responsibility of providing funding for the rehabilitation of the survivors of this war crime. This includes:

Providing medical assistance and support for the injured;

Funding for counselling for the deceased's families, the injured and witnesses and which include children from the neighbouring children's homes (orphanages);

Providing funding for the education and basic living expenses of the injured as well as the siblings of the deceased's;

Rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed by the bombing;

Providing assistance to all children aged under 16 affected by the war in memory of the August 14 victims.

Children throughout the NorthEast continue to be the innocent victims of war due to shelling, bombing, displacement, rape, murder and torture. TRO calls on the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) to respect international humanitarian law and ensure children and the places where they live, study and play are protected from harm.

For the names and ages of the victims of this atrocity and information on ways to assist the survivors of the bombing please visit the August 14th Memorial Fund website: http://august14memorial.com/
