Note - English The Academy of Science and Arts for the Tamils in Ceylon (ASATiC) is of the belief it is only through greater understanding and patience we, as Tamil Speaking People will find a way through our predicaments. On one side we have our historical conflict with our Sinhala brothers for the rights to ownership of our lands and our destiny as a people. On the other side we face the regional and international conditions that predetermine our means of ownership and therefore, our destiny. It is our peoples struggle caught in between these two conditions that have become the sticking point at the present. The question is how to unlock and free ourselves. We believe in talking to the enemy, not necessarily only to our friends if we want resolution, as Moshe Dayan once said. For greater understanding and participation of the Expatriates in mind we are organising a series of Consultation Meetings with people of influence and abilities. In this context we have invited Col. R. Hariharn VSM (Retd) from India to come and talk and discuss with us about the Indias Security concerns and Sri Lanka policies, which we believe is an important aspect that affect our struggle. Our esteem guest, Col. HariharanWe need not introduce such a prominent personality as Col. Hariharan to you. For those who are unfamiliar, Col. Hariharan is a scholar and was a serving officer with the IPKF. He has great military knowledge about the region and most of his predictions seem to be correct in many analysts views, and these are often quoted in many reputable strategist reviews and articles. If we were to summarise his views, we note it is our own views gathered only from the published materials, we could put them in point form as the following. (Please check saag.org in which he publishes his numerous articles or google search for more details.)
Towards Expatriate cooperation As we believe in greater cooperation and, collective actions and responsibilities we are aiming to bring a series of consultation meetings jointly with other Expatriate organisations. The first series is being organised jointly with the Tamil Information Centre (TIC) on the 12th of January 2008 (Saturday), at 15.00 at the Institute of Education, Russells Square. There will also be another on the 13th (Sunday) jointly organised with the Thesam magazine. We also believe in proper representation of the Expatriate communities irrespective of our political views regarding any group or organisation, which meant accepting that vast numbers support the LTTE, without conditions. It is therefore expected that reality should be reflected in the gathering of the great and the good on the 12th of January and, those who attend will make use of the opportunity to create a constructive atmosphere of good discussion. We believe our maturity as Expatriate community would suffice to generate and conduct an all inclusive discussion avoiding the pit falls of ridicules and speeches, which are of course, counter productive. From our part to avoid such environment we have organised the meeting in boardroom style, where the participants have ample time to air their sound intellectually constructed arguments without interruptions. We hope we have provided an adequate account of our intentions as well as introduction to our guest Col. Hariharan. For further information contact the Academic Secretary (ASATiC) at [email protected] or the TIC at [email protected], please. Thank you. Yours truly, |
