Protest against Valikamam Colonisation

A Poem in Tamil by Raj Swarnan

"The Jaffna people are... deeply concerned over government preparations to acquire 12,000 acres of private land in Kankesanthurai and Palaly areas under a gazette notification issued on 7 October 1985. Resettlement has not been allowed in these areas which includes 35 of the 435 Grama Sevaka (Village Headman) divisions in Jaffna. Although presidential secretary P Balapatabendi denied government intention, reports in late March said that President Chandrika has ordered stay of the acquisition." - British Refugee Council publication Sri Lanka Monitor, March 1999

The inhabitants of the village Kurumbasiddy, which is situated in the Southern Boundary of the Palaly Air Port and Military Base, gathered in Colombo in April 1999  to discuss the problems faced by the villagers due to the ongoing war....The village is under Army occupation since 1990 June and none of the residents were able to visit their village thereafter. The meeting   discussed  the preventive measures to be taken if the Government proceeds with its plan to acquire the villages in the Valikamam North Area. It was decided to form a broad based organization consisting of displaced people from all the villages in the Valikamam North Division with a view to bring pressure on authorities to stop all actions to acquire lands for non-civilian purposes and for state sponsored colonization - and to   prevent the systemized destruction of the Tamil Homeland.

வலிகாமம் வடக்குப் பகுதியினை இராணுவத் தேவைகளுக்காக அரசு சுவீகரிக்க உள்ளதாக நம்பகமான தகவல்கள் வெளிவந்த வண்ணமுள்ளன. இது குறித்து உடனடியான முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கைகளை உலகத் தமிழினம் எடுக்க வேண்டியது அவசியமாகும்.

சத்திய வேள்வியிற் குதித்திடும் நேரம்
வந்தது தமிழா வாடா...
நித்தியம் நாம் அகதிகளாய்
நீண்ட நெடுங்காலத்திற்குப்
பட்ட துயர் போதும்...
சற்றுப் புத்தியைத்தான் தீட்டிப்பார்...
வலிகாமம் வடக்கிலும் நாம் வந்தேறு குடிகளோ?
சத்தியமாய்ச் சொல்கின்றோம்...
தாய் நிலத்தைப் பறிக்கும் இவர்
தரங்கெட்ட திட்டமிங்கு
நிறைவேற விடமாட்டோம் ஒருபோதும்....
அரிய உரிமைகளை அரசுக்கு விலைபேசி
ஜப்பான் ஜீப் வாங்கி வந்தார் அன்று...
பரம்பரை நிலத்தையே பஜிரோக்கு விலைபேசி
பாழ்ங்கிணற்றில் தள்ளுகிறார் இன்று...
எங்கள் பெயர்சொல்லிப் பிழைப்பு நடத்துகின்ற
ஏதிலிகள் தம்மால் எதுவும் ஆகாது...
அகிலமனைத்திலும் இவ் அநீதியை எடுத்துரைக்க
உலகத் தமிழினமே... உடனே விழித்தெழுக...
சராசரித் தமிழா.... சிந்தி...
தங்கத் தமிழ் நிலத்தைத் தாரை வார்த்தலிலும்
எங்கள் உயிர்களை இழத்தலே உத்தமம்....
எங்கள் நிலத்திற்குப் பங்கம் வருமென்றால்
பட்டினி கிடந்து பசியாற் சாவோம்...
உலகமெங்கணும் உண்ணா நோன்புப்
போரினை நடாத்தி உணர்ச்சியூட்டுவோம்....
