Tamils - a Trans State Nation..

"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."

Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C

Withdraw from Ceasefire Agreement, Wimal urges Government

Daily Mirror - August 4, 2006

JVP parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday urged the government to withdraw from the Ceasefire Agreement which he said had become a mere document.

Mr Weerawansa who is also the general secretary of the Patriotic National Movement (PNM) told the media that the hearts of ‘those white diplomats’ did not melt when the LTTE obstructed water by closing the Mawilaru sluice gates but they melted when some fishermen in Pesalai were attacked.

He questioned as to who gave the authority to a ‘spineless’ person like Erik Solheim to give orders to a sovereign country and noted that monitors do not have the authority of judges. He urged the government to force Mr. Solheim to withdraw his recent statement.

Mr. Weerawansa also said that government should go ahead and defeat the LTTE.

Meanwhile, PNM President Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara while approving the government’s stand on the Mawilaru incident said everyone should corporate with the government at this moment setting aside their trade union and cost of living grievances.
