Colombo adopting Machiavellian approach to Karuna, inevitable
says SLMM Head Gen. Henricsson

On Colombo disarming Karuna Group as agreed in the Geneva-I
talks, the Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), Ulf Henricsson asked,
"Well, I think they (Security Forces) will have a lot of
problems, if they do it [disarm Karuna]. Further I don't see any reason for the
government to do it. To be honest. If you have a warring faction against you and
if your enemy is split why should you try to stop that. Have you read
Machiavelli?”, in an interview appeared in the latest edition of Sunday
Observer.
The competence, probity and bona fide of SLMM Head Gen. Henricsson is called
into question. His irresponsible statement something like adding fuel to the
flames would definitely exacerbate the ongoing racial violence in the country.
He is all out to induce the majoritarian Singhalese regime with Machiavellian
motive whereby it would resort to clever and deceitful schemes to crush the
Tamil community in Sri Lanka.
Firstly, SLMM Head Gen. Henricsson should be aware and should not forget that
Tamil militants (viz: LTTE) are struggling against racial genocide for a noble
cause of saving the Tamil Nation for its fundamental rights.Secondly, SLMM, by
its presence, is expected to do the needful within its might to find an enduring
political solution based on the Tamil people's right to self determination.
Thirdly, it would be comprehensible even to a man of low intellect that the
SLMM- Head by his defending the presence of Karuna group by prioritizing the
reading of ‘Machiavelli,’, has confirmed that he is not least bothered about the
peace and harmony or the core issues of the ethnic conflict in the country.
Fourthly, it appears that the SLMM-Head has preferred Machiavellian motive to
the Cease Fire Agreement and also the teachings of religions such as
Christianity and Buddhism. Do all these mean that he wants to see Sri Lanka
soaked in blood by the prolongation of gory war?
Fifthly, is the SLMM-Head aware of the fact that when it transpired in the LTTE
that Karuna, one of the most trusted erstwhile confidants of LTTE militants was
guilty of embezzlement of tens of millions of movement funds, murdering fellow
cadres, sexual escapades and abuse of female cadres, he slipped into the hands
of the Singhalese armed forces to escape justice from the movement. This
betrayal by Karuna impelled the armed forces to sideline the peace process,
break the truce that prevailed by virtue of the CFA and embark afresh on violent
activities shattering the peaceful atmosphere that existed in the country. To
make good the opportunity, when the armed forces threatened Karuna under duress
for his past acts against them, he pledged to damage the reputation of the LTTE
and pursue his vendetta against it until it is crushed and on this assurance he
was spared by the armed forces on the philosophy that one’s enemy’s enemy is
one’s friend.
