Nationalisation of Tamil Literary Works

During 2007-08, the works of the following Tamil Scholars were nationailised. The legal heirs of 19 Tamil scholars who furnished necessary documents were paid a compensation of Rs.1.75 crores by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Singaravelar, Marudakasi, Kunrakudi Adigalar, Ki. Aa. Pe. Viswanatham, Ki. Va. Jagannathan, Avvai Duraisamy Pillai, A.Sa. Gnanasambandar, Thirukkuralar Muniswami, Uvamai Kavingnar Surada, Savi, Mavengo alias Va.Ko. Shanmugam, Deepam Na. Parthasarathy, S.S. Thennarasu, C.P.Chitrarasu, A.V.P.Asaithambi,T.K. Seenuvasan, Rama. Arangannal, Kavignar Vanidasan, Kavignar Karunanandam, Jalakandapuram Pa. Kannan

During the year 2008-09 the works of 27 Tamil Scholars will be nationalized and solatium will be given to their legal heirs having regard to the number of books written by them, their social impact and their literary value. They include

Kavignar Periyasamy Thooran, Professor Ka.Vellai Varananar, Panditar Ka.Ayothidasar, Abraham Panditar, Sathavathani Seikuthambi Pavalar, Dr.Ra.Pi. Sethupillai, Mahavidwan Ra.Raghava Iyengar, Udumalai Narayana Kavi, Ku.Mu.Annal Thango, Avvai Ti.Ka. Shanmugam, Vindhan La.Sa.Ramamir tham, Vallikannan, Na.Vanamamalai, Kavingnar Pudhuvai Sivam, A.Raghavan, Tho.Mu.Ci.Raghunathan, Saktidasan Subramanian, Dr.Na.Sanjivi, Mullai Muthaiyya, Kavingnar S.T.Sundaram, Kavignar Meera, Professor A.Karmegha Konar, Pulavar Mohammad Nainar Marakkayar, Su.Samuthiram, Kovai llancheran and Professor Na.Subbureddiar

It is important that the literary works of Tamil Scholars should be made available to all. Hence the writings of the best Tamil scholars are nationalised by Government.

The writings of Pulavar Kulandai, Parithi Mal Kalaignar, Silambu Selvar Ma.Po.Si were nationalized and their legal heirs were paid compensation amount of Rs.10.00 lakhs, 15.00 lakhs and 20.00 lakhs respectively.

Further the writings of 14 Tamil Scholars,

viz., Mayuram Vedanayagam Pillai, Sakthi Vai.Govindan, T.P.Meenakshi Sundaranar, Tha.Na. Kumarasamy, Ka.Su.Pillai, Pulavar Gulam Kathiru Navalar, Thi.Vai.Sathasiva Pandarathar, Dr.C.Ilakkuvanar, Maha Vidwan Dhandapani Desikar, Thi.Ja.Renganathan(T.J.R), Narana Durai Kannan, Dr.M.Rajamanickanar, Dr.Va. Suba.Manickam, Pulavar Ka.Govindan

were nationalised. Compensation amount of Rs.84.00 lakhs were sanctioned to the legal heirs of the above 14 scholars during the year 2006-2007.

The works of

Singaravelar, Kirupananda Variar, Kunrakudi Adigalar, Ki.Aa.Pe.Viswanatham, Ki.Va.Jagannathan, Avvai Duraiswamy Pillai, A.Sa.Gnanasambandar, Tirukkuralar Munuswami, Uvamai Kavignar Suradha, Savi, Mavengo alias Va.Ko.Shanmugam, Deepam Na.Parthasarathy, S.S.Thennarasu, C.P.Chitrarasu, A.V.P.Asaithampi, T.K.Seenuvasan, Rama.Arangannal, Kavignar Vanidasan, Kavignar Karunanandan, Jalakandapuram Pa.Kannan

will also be nationalized and the solatium will be given to their descendants having regard to the number of books written by them and their merit. This initiative will be continued. Apart from this, a new scheme will be introduced for grant of solatium to living Tamil scholars who are in indigent circumstances.
