Journey Down Memory Lane To Reach 'tamiz Izam'
R.Shanmugalingam
Chapter 28
Protection of the Sinhalas has produced the Devolution Package announcement according to Reuters. Prevention of further freedom fighter activities is the target for announcing the DP, not any love for ‘tamizar.’ Chandrika, I quoted earlier does not care a hoot for ‘tamizar’ because she has as other Sinhala Prime Ministers and Presidents have experienced the cringing and crouching of Quasi ‘tamizar.’ She is dallying with the ‘Rice Test"("ab uno disce omnes.")- From a single instance infer the whole.-She expects full blooded ‘tamizar’ to also get back to the 1983 level. If we keep quiet now, then we will make her think so about us. This is the time for seasonal and behind the back critics to come out and express an opinion on the situation.
I am compelled to repeat a view of a large number of full blooded ‘tamizar,’ who have in one form or another tasted the Sinhala Buddha hits and unfaithfulness in their various promises to the ‘tamiz’ community. "The center will have absolute Sinhala majority and the Tamils will be marginalized as ever with their political institutions relegated to the status of glorified municipalities. Unless there is structural constitutional parity the Tamils will be walking into a trap with this."
Lives have been lost and lives will be lost if the freedom fighters do not take part in the process. Will they be invited? If invited will they accept the proposal? These are questions the affected have to answer. However by association we have also committed to stand with the freedom fighters or oppose them or shown total indifference to whatever happens there. In deference to the full blooded ‘tamizar’ point of view, it is necessary to express our desire and course of action to the freedom fighters, the Sinhala government and Sinhala Buddhists. I therefore am addressing an open letter to ‘tamiz Izam’ National Leader Velupillai Pirabaharan with copies to Sinhala Sri Lanka President Chandrika Kumaranatunga Bandaranayake and through her to her supporters who want to keep ‘tamizar’ under their swollen thumbs.
Thiru Velupillai Pirabaharan
National ‘tamiz Izam’ Leader
Dear only ‘tamiz’ Leader history has known,
A test to your ability to deliver ‘tamiz Izam’ with the strong support of your associates and your supporters from within and outside is challenging you. A continuation of your stance to achieve ‘tamiz Izam’ by adopting only guerrilla tactics I am afraid is a little too far fetched and suicidal. Whatever may be said for your sincerity, loyalty and ability, we are not living in a world of our ancient traditions under divine law.
Today we are living in a world that has to meet the challenges of a manipulated stock market. Systems of government that have nothing to do with the -cracys assigned to them, continue to deceive people. The fault is not with the leaders entirely, but with those who continue to accept such leaders. The leaders to retain power continue to manipulate the masses. A glaring example is the history of ‘tamiz,’ struggle in Sri Lanka.
A malevolent continuous Sinhala majority government since independence has overtly in some cases and covertly in many cases undermined, suppressed, ‘tamiz’ aspirations to live as equal citizens with the Sinhalas with equal opportunity. But rendered ‘tamizar’ helpless in the so called unified Sri Lanka. This caused us insufferable pain. Pain without gain is in vain. So the freedom fighters caused pain to themselves and to ‘tamizar’ by taking up arms against a malevolent government of, for ,and by the insatiable Sinhala Buddhists for dominance.
Here I will recommend Thiruvalluvar. Before I quote Valluvar, I would like to say that you are the undisputed leader of full blooded ‘tamizar.’ Quasi ‘tamizar’ and ‘pan handlers’ can claim otherwise. I am sure the world will soon know them and learn not to take them seriously. Unfortunately the full blooded ‘tamiz’ publicity machinery if any, has been involved in self-praise and neglected the open play field of PR to be monopolized by miscreants. You know your strength and your weaknesses. Learn the opponent's strength to avoid pitfalls, but study his weaknesses to weaken him. Let me quote a couple of ‘kuRaL":
- "pEtamy enpatonRu jAtenil Etangkonhdu
- Utijam pOka vidal" ‘kuRaL’ 831
- Foolish to keep that is hurtful
- and throw away that is gainful. Eng. Interpret. Shan.
- "izyttatu ikavAmyc cAvAry jArE
- pizyttatu oRukkiR pavar." ‘kuRaL’ 779
- who in defeat dares to scorn
- whose life’s sacrifice sworn. Eng. Interpret. Shan.
- "tunpam uRavarinum cejka tunhivARRi
- inpam pajakkum viny." ‘kuRaL’ 669
It is a very difficult task to quote and interpret all the 1330 ‘kuRaL here but I will try to do it as and when my thought process gets a chance to fulfill this sacred function.
There is a general fear in certain quarters when ‘tamiz’ is associated with ‘murukan’ as the ‘tamiz tejvam’ ‘tamiz’ governments will be no better than the Sinhala Buddhist government. This is the result of a lack of understanding ‘tamiz’ tradition and language. ‘murukan’ is an euhemerism-"the system of mythological interpretation which regards the myth as founded on traditional accounts of real people and events."
A film song asks the following question?
- ‘paRavyjyk kanhdAn vimAnam padyttAn
- pAjum mInkaLil padakinyk kanhdAn
- etiroli kEddAn vAnoli padyttAn
- etanyk kanhdAn matangkaLyp padyttAn
- manitan mARividdAn vAnam mARavilly &c."
‘tamiz’ is beyond narrow constraints of euphimisms for the concept of God and religion therefrom. Manikkavasagar in Thiruvempavai has given a non controversial all concept embracing definition of God in the light of modern Electro-magnetic effect on matter or energy.:
I am confident based on your leadership anchored in the ocean of ‘tamiz’ tradition, culture and language guided by divine law will treat every citizen of ‘tamiz Izam’ equally and in the same spirit of friendship.
And please also remember:
With kindest regards and ever in your debt,
c.c President Chandrika Kumaranatunga Sri Lanka.
