No force on earth can stop Tamils
from honouring their Fallen Freedom Fighters [also in Tamil]

The mass of people who attended the Maveerar Remembrance Day event in Canada on 27, November 2008 is once again a clear signal to all Tamil detractors that their shenanigans won’t work... As one hears of the mass of people attending similar events taking place all over the Tamil Diaspora, one is heartened but not surprised. Such a profound out pouring of emotion and passion by Tamils unprecedented in terms of any freedom struggles in recent times is reflective of the Tamil people’s genuine yearning to see their homeland Tamil Eelam free; a yearning that’s just and reasonable and should be felt, understood and supported by the rest of the world..."

Try as they might the Bandula Jayasekeras and the Mahindas of the world – whether Rajapakse or Gunesekara cannot stop Canadian Tamils from paying homage to their fallen heroes, the brave Tamil freedom fighters who died fighting to liberate the Tamil homeland in the island of Sri Lanka. The mass of people who attended the Maveerar Remembrance Day event in Canada on 27, November 2008 is once again a clear signal to all Tamil detractors that their shenanigans won’t work. They must know that any attempt on their part to foil, that which Canadian Tamils hold dear will not succeed. And honoring the fallen freedom fighters is a ritual that all freedom loving Tamils consider to be sacred, that which is religiously performed by them as a bounden duty, a manifestation born out of their yearning to see their homeland, Tamil Eelam free.

The continuing stream of faithful followers saluting their fallen heroes the “Maveerar” was seemingly inexhaustible and endless, which at one point had to be halted by public announcements with the event venue doors being closed to prevent more people entering and an order for at least quarter of the crowd to leave the inside of the building, only due to issues of fire safety and similar such hazards arising from crowds swelling well over capacity at the huge Pearson Convention Center. This massive show of people power is enough to silence the critics and shut any doubters, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, the implicit faith Canadian Tamils place in their freedom fighters. No force on earth can stop them from performing this very sacred ritual, be it Bandula Jayasekera, the new Sri Lankan Consul General, doing over time for his pay master, Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse and working in tandem with another ultra racist cum Sinhalese chauvinist, Mahinda Gunesekara the honorary president of the Sri Lanka United National Association of Canada, well known to be leading the anti- Tamil propaganda machinery in Canada; or any of their kind, the so called “highly suspect” and “pitifully puny” Canadian Democratic Tamil Association.

Bandula Jayasekera and his co-conspirators had tried hard to stop the many events taking place to honour the Maveerar which is celebrated also as a day of “Tamil Uprising for Freedom” which falls on the day after the much loved and revered Tamil Leader, Velupillai Pirabaharan’s birthday on 26, November. Their bid to prevent the events from taking place by “informing” Canadian law enforcement and intelligence authorities did not have the desired effect. All the events that were planned took place on the scheduled days and at the proposed venues with the blessings of law enforcement and intelligence officers.

Canada is a free country (thank God for it) and truly upholds the Canadian Charter of Rights and on this occasion it was as if the pledge of allegiance to the Charter was renewed yet again. No foreigner or for that matter, no Sri Lankan can come here to Canada and take away the rights of Tamil Canadians in Canadian soil, to honour their own.

Canadian Tamils in their struggle for freedom of their homeland will not break Canadian laws. As much as they would have wished to raise the Tamil Eelam flag and display their beloved leader’s picture, they did not do it. But one thing can be said with certainty. Everyone spoken to, said, they visualized the Tamil Eelam Flag and their leader with their mind’s eye and prayed that he would be healthy and alive and lead them to victory. Such is the unwavering faith that Tamils have and there can never be a law to prevent that, no force can stop that which is deeply embedded in the hearts and minds of a people.

தம்முயிரீந்த சுதந்திர வீரர்களை தமிழர்கள் நினைவுகூருவதை உலகின் எந்த சக்தியாலும் தடுக்க முடியாது.

இலங்கைத் தீவில் தமிழர் தாயகத்தை மீட்பதற்காகப் போராடி உயிர்நீத்த தமிழ்ச் சுதந்திர வீரர்களுக்கு அஞ்சலி செலுத்தும் கனேடியத் தமிழர்களை சிறீலங்கா அரசினால் தடுக்க முடியாது. மாவீரர் நினைவு நாளுக்காக கார்த்திகை 27ம் நாள் கனடாவில் கூடிய பெருந்தொகையான மக்கள் கூட்டம் பொய்யர்களின் செப்படிவித்தை பலிக்காது என்பதை மீண்டுமொருமுறை எடுத்துக் காட்டியுள்ளது. கனேடியத் தமிழர்கள் பற்றுறுதியுடன் செய்ய விரும்புவதை முறியடிக்கும் அவர்களது முயற்சி எதுவும் வெற்றிபெறாது என்பதை அவர்கள் தெரிந்துகொள்ளவேண்டும். தியாகிகளாகிவிட்ட சுதந்திரவீரர்களைக் கௌரவிப்பதென்பது சுதந்திரத்தை நேசிக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு தமிழனும் புனிதமாகக் கருதும் ஒரு சம்பிரதாயச் சடங்காகும். அதனை அவர்கள் சமயானுட்டானங்களுடன் கட்டாயக்கடனாக நிறைவேற்றுகிறார்கள். இவை அனைத்தும் தமது தாயகமாகிய தமிழ் ஈழம் விடுதலைபெறவேண்டும் என்ற அவர்களது அவாவின் வெளிப்பாடாகும்.

வீரமரணமடைந்த தமது நாயகர்களாகிய மாவீரர்களுக்கு வணக்கம் செலுத்துவதற்காக பியர்சன் மாநாட்டு மண்டபத்திற்கு தொடர்ச்சியாக அலையலையாக வந்த உண்மையாகவே அவர்கள்மீது அன்பு கொண்டவர்களின் தொகை கட்டுக்கடங்காமலும் முடிவில்லாமலும் இருந்தது. ஒரு கட்டத்தில் மண்டப வாயில்களை மூடி பகிரங்க அறிவிப்புகள் மூலம் கூட்டத்திற்கு வருகை தந்தவர்களை மேலும் வரவிடாது தடுக்கவேண்டிய நிலை ஏற்பட்டது. அதுமட்டுமல்ல மண்டபத்தின் கொள்ளளவுக்கும் அதிகமாக மக்கள் நிறைந்த காரணத்தினால் தீப் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் அதுபோன்ற பிரச்சனைகளைக் கருத்திற்கொண்டு மாநாட்டு மண்டபதினுள் ஏற்கனவே வந்துவிட்டவர்களில் குறைந்தது கால்வாசியானவர்களை மண்டபத்தை விட்டு வெளியேறுமாறு வற்புறுத்தவேண்டியும் ஏற்பட்டது. இந்த மாபெரும் மக்கள் சக்தியின் வெளிப்பாடு மாறுபட்ட சந்தேகக் கருத்துக்கொண்டவர்களின் வாய்களை அடைத்து, கனேடியத் தமிழர்கள் தமது சுதந்திரப் போராட்ட வீரர்கள் மீது கொண்டுள்ள மறைமுகமான நம்பிக்கையை சந்தேகமின்றி நிரூபித்து நிற்கின்றது. மிகவும் புனிதமான இந்த சடங்கை அவர்கள் நிறைவேற்றுவதிலிருந்து உலகின் எந்தச் சக்தியாலும் தடுத்து நிறுத்திவிட முடியாது. அது, கனடாவில் தமிழ் விரோத பிரச்சாரத்தை முன்னெடுத்துச் செல்லும் வண்டிலின் இரண்டு மாடுகள் போல் செயற்படும் கனடாவுக்கான சிறீலங்காவின் புதிய தூதுவர் பந்துல ஜெயசேகராவானாலும் சரி, பச்சை இனத் துவேசியான கனடாவிலுள்ள சிறீலங்கா ஐக்கிய தேசிய சங்கத்தின் தலைவர் மகிந்த குணசேகராவானாலும் சரி அல்லது கனேடிய ஜனநாயக தமிழ் அமைப்பு எனப்படும் அவைபோன்ற அமைப்புக்களானாலும் சரி எவற்றாலும் தடுத்துவிட முடியாது.

தமிழர்களால் மிகவும் மதிக்கப்பட்டு நேசிக்கப்படும் தமிழ்த் தலைவர் வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரனின் பிறந்தநாநாளாகிய நவம்பர் 26ம் திகதிக்கு மறுதினம் அனுட்டிக்கப்படும் மாவீரர் நாளை, அதாவது சுதந்திரத்திற்கான எழுச்சி நாளாகவும் கொண்டாடப்படும் அந்த நாள் தொடர்பான பலவேறு நிகழ்ச்சிகளையும்; தடுப்பதற்காக பந்துல ஜெயசூரியாவும் அவரது கூட்டுச் சதிகாரரும் முயற்சித்தார்கள். சட்டம் ஒழுங்கைப் பேணும் கனேடிய அதிகாரிகளுக்கு தகவல்கள் கொடுத்து இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடைபெறுவதைத் தடுக்க அவர்கள் மேற்கொண்ட முயற்சிகள் பலனளிக்கவில்லை. உளவுத்துறை அதிகாரிகளினதும் சட்ட ஒழுங்கைப் பேணும் அதிகாரிகளினதும் ஆசீர்வாதத்துடன் நிகழ்ச்சிகள் யாவும் திட்டமிட்டபடி குறித்த இடங்களில் குறித்த நாட்களில் நடைபெற்றன.

கனடா ஒரு சுதந்திரமான நாடு – அதற்காக கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி சொல்வோம்- ‘கனேடிய உரிமைப் பட்டய’த்தை கடைப்பிடிக்கும் நாடு. அன்றைய தினம் அந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளின்போது அவ் உரிமைப் பட்டயத்திற்கான விசுவாசம் மீண்டுமொருமுறை புதுப்பிப்பது போன்று அமைந்தது. எந்தவொரு வெளிநாட்டவரோ அல்லது அதைப் பொறுத்தவரை எந்தவொரு சிறீலங்கா பிரஜையோ இங்கு வந்து தாம் விரும்புகிறவரை கௌரவிக்கும் அந்த உரிமையை கனேடியத் தமிழர்களிடமிருந்து கனேடிய மண்ணில் பறிக்க முடியாது.

தமது தாயகமண்ணின் விடுதலைக்காக உழைக்கும் வேளையில் கனேடிய சட்டதிட்டங்களை கனேடியத் தமிழர்கள் மீறமாட்டார்கள். தமிழ் ஈழக் கொடியை ஏற்றுவதற்கும் தாங்கள் மிகவும் நேசிக்கும் தலைவரின் படத்தை காட்சியில் வைப்பதற்கும் விரும்பியபோதும் அதை அவர்கள் செய்யவில்லை. ஆனாலும் ஒன்றை மட்டும் உறுதியாகக் கூறமுடியும். அங்கு வந்திருந்த எல்லோரும் தமது மனத்தில் தமிழ் ஈழக் கொடியைப் பதித்து தமது தலைவரை மனக் கண்ணில் இருத்தி அவரது நல்லாரோக்கியத்திற்காகவும் நல் வாழ்விற்காகவும் தம்மை வெற்றிக்கு இட்டுச் செல்லவும் வேண்டுமென்றும் பிரார்த்தனை செய்ததாகக் கூறினார்கள். அத்துணைத் தளப்பமற்றது தமிழர்கள் கொண்டுள்ள பற்று. அது எந்தச் சட்டத்தாலும் தடுக்கப்படமுடியாதது. ஒரு இனத்தின் இதயத்திலும் மனத்திலும் அத்துணை ஆழமாகப் பதிந்துவிட்ட அந்த நம்பிக்கையை எந்த சக்தியும் நிறுத்த முடியாது.

இவ்வாறு உலகில் தமிழர் வாழும் இடங்களிலெல்லாம் பெருந்தொகையான மக்கள் அத்தகைய நிகழ்வுகளில் பங்கேற்றமையை கேள்வியுறும்போது நெஞ்சம் நெகிழ்கிறது ஆனால் ஆச்சரியப்படவில்லை. தமிழர்களின் அத்தகைய ஆழமாகப் பொங்கிப் பிரவாகமெடுக்கும் உணர்ச்சியும் வாஞ்சையும் அண்மைக் காலத்தில் ஒரு விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் முன்னெப்பொழுதும் இடம்பெறாதன. தமது தாயகபூமி விடுதலை பெறவேண்டுமென்ற தமிழர்களின் உண்மையான பற்றுறுதியையும் வேணவாவையும் இது தெளிவாக எடுத்துக் காட்டுகிறது. மிகவும் நியாய பூர்வமானதும் தார்மீக ரீதியானதுமான அவர்களது இந்தப் பெருவிருப்பு எஞ்சியுள்ள உலகத்தார் யாவராலும் உணரப்படவேண்டும், ஆதரிக்கப்படவேண்டும்!
