Tamils - a Trans State Nation..

"To us all towns are one, all men our kin.
Life's good comes not from others' gift, nor ill
Man's pains and pains' relief are from within.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise !."
-
Tamil Poem in Purananuru, circa 500 B.C

REFLECTIONS ON
SIDDANTA & VEDANTA

from Garlands of Transient Thoughts,

"... Vedanta became unreal and incomprehensible to the ordinary mortal man. It whirled, it dashed, it roared like a furious hurricane and only the spiritually mighty stood its lashings. In contrast, the concepts of Siddanta take the common man, from here and now, in easy and sweet steps to the Supreme. It declares, God by any name is the ultimate Reality. The choice is yours, according to your own spiritual strength.

Vedanta declares "There are not two" and more emphatically "They are not two". The one, the pure Consciousness of the Self (Athman) that remains when both the consciousness of the phenomenal world (Jagat) and the ego-consciousness "I" (Aham) have been unhooked from the mind and the other, the universal undifferentiated primary Consciousness, the ultimate Reality (Brahman), are not two . Vedanta affirms 'That thou art'. (Tat Twam Asi). The final goal, Salvation (Moksha) is the identification of the two as one and this is obtained by arduous and lengthy disciplines (Yoga).

Siddanta says "There are two": the Lord (Pathy) and the soul (Pasu), and the two are eternally linked (Pasam). The goal (Mukti) is reached when all the 'defilements' (Mala), the impurities in action, speech and thought are first eliminated and then, the ego-consciousness (Anavam) which is the last and the most subtle sheath of personal identity, is also eliminated. The soul then becomes as one with GOD. In this ultimate state it says, "There are two" but now "They are not twos" and separate, but are together."
